Alstern Solicitors is an SRA-regulated law firm providing professional legal services in Immigration, Property & Commercial Conveyancing, Family Law, Wills, Trusts, and Probate. Based in Canary Wharf, we are a small growing firm with a strong East Asian cultural presence, serving clients across diverse communities in UK.
We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated Immigration Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in UK immigration law, handling applications such as FLR(M), FLR(FP), Settlement (ILR), Naturalisation, Skilled Worker visas, and appeal cases.
This role requires excellent attention to detail, a strong grasp of immigration procedures, and the ability to assist solicitors in case preparation, client communication, and document management. Fluency in Vietnamese is essential, as a significant proportion of our clients are Vietnamese-speaking. Proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) would be highly advantageous, as the firm is currently expanding its services into the Chinese market, and such skills would greatly support our marketing and client engagement activities in that community.
Key Responsibilities
Assist solicitors in preparing and submitting Home Office immigration applications, including but not limited to:
FLR(M), FLR(FP), Appendix FM applications
EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)
Skilled Worker, Student, and Visitor visas
Naturalisation and Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
Administrative Review and Appeal bundles
Draft client care letters, legal correspondence, and representations for submission to the Home Office and Tribunals.
Communicate with clients, ensuring all documents are collected, verified, and compliant with immigration requirements.
Maintain accurate client files in line with SRA and firm procedures, including AML and KYC checks.
Conduct legal research and keep up to date with changes in immigration law and Home Office policies.
Use the firm's case management system to track case progress, tasks, and communication logs.
Liaise with the marketing and sales team to support immigration-related promotional materials, client outreach, and community engagement.
Contribute to marketing content such as videos, blog posts, and social media about immigration law updates.
Provide general administrative and operational support to the legal team as needed (printing, scanning, scheduling, document management).
Key Requirements
At least 1 year of experience in a UK immigration law firm or similar legal setting (essential).
Strong knowledge of immigration categories, including family routes (FLR(M), FLR(FP)), skilled worker, and settlement applications.
Law degree or equivalent qualification (SQE or LPC desirable).
Fluent in Vietnamese or Chinese and English (both written and spoken).
Excellent drafting and client communication skills.
Strong understanding of UK administrative processes (e.g. contacting councils, GP practices, registrar offices).
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with legal case management systems.
Professional, confident, and approachable manner.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
Creative and proactive attitude with a willingness to support wider firm operations, including marketing initiatives.
Must be based in London, preferably near Canary Wharf.
Commitment to professional growth and willingness to undertake self-directed learning.
Additional Information
Probation: 6 months
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (1-hour unpaid lunch break).
Travel Reimbursement: Not provided for this junior position.
