Role Purpose
Mustard Tree's individual giving strategy is twofold. Firstly, it a
movement for change
:
Helping people understand what we do, who we support, the scale we now operate at, and how people can help Mustard Tree, our clients and the community.
Second, it is about securing the charity's future by
building sustainable income
streams.
You will be responsible for growing, maintaining, and stewarding Mustard Tree's individual giving donations, which include one-off donations, direct debits, challenge events, and legacy giving. You will also work with the Fundraising Manager to develop Mustard Tree's philanthropic strategy'
You will manage an existing community of these valued supporters, with the aim to proactively create new relationships, partnerships, advocates, and donors. This will involve contacting through multiple channels, communicating through social media, hosting and touring groups at Mustard Tree, and going out to present/pitch to potential donors: sharing our impact, work, successes, and opportunities to give.
In addition, you will support the stewardship of Mustard Tree's events and challenge fundraisers, working alongside our Corporate & Events Officer in planning events, achieving income targets, and ultimately making Mustard Tree's events portfolio a community-driven success.
What you'll be doing:
Individual Giving and Stewardship
Steward existing monthly donors through a variety of channels, engagement points, and opportunities. Help people understand why their continued support is vital.
Grow our number of direct debits by helping develop campaigns, then spearheading the content, communication, and engagement.
Reduce direct debit cancellations through proactive relationship management and personalised donor engagement.
Manage all enquiries, emails, and queries relating to Individual Giving, ensuring timely, grateful and professional responses.
Oversee the day-to-day engagement and responses across Mustard Tree's social media channels, predominantly our Instagram and LinkedIn accounts.
Host, tour, meet, and present to potential donors, philanthropists, and supporters to build meaningful relationships and encourage ongoing support.
Work with the Fundraising Manager to assign responsibility for new and existing donors, philanthropists, and targets.
Maintain accurate data entry, contact management, and income tracking within the CRM system, ensuring data integrity and clear reporting.
Provide weekly updates on progress towards targets, understanding your pipeline, forecasting and committing.
Support the Fundraising Team in developing and publishing compelling fundraising copy, decks, social media content, and donor materials.
Events Fundraising
Support the delivery and growth of our existing events portfolio, including The Great Manchester Run, Tough Mudder, Trafford Abseil and October Half Marathon, ensuring each event's success and alignment with fundraising goals.
Research and develop new events and opportunities to strengthen our annual fundraising calendar.
Empower and support individuals to plan and host independent fundraising events by developing and promoting a comprehensive fundraising toolkit.
Support the planning and running of our 2026 Fundraising Dinner, helping secure attendance from key individuals and philanthropists.
Work with the Fundraising Team to forecast events income and help build the 12-month events fundraising pipeline.
Fundraising Teamwork
Supporting the Fundraising Team where required, including administration, cover, and events attendance.
Host two 'Corporate Volunteering Days' a week, including a morning tour and afternoon debrief.
Support the Fundraising & Finance Teams with data entry, CRM updates, and the creation of KPI data when required
Specification:
Essential:
Experience within a client-facing role.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders such as corporate partners, volunteers, and donors.
A confident ability to deliver presentations, host groups, and perform tours, amongst other, similar engagements.
Organisational skills to manage multiple tasks, such as email communications and CRM management.
Ability to plan and coordinate events, from small scale volunteering days to 'mass participation' fundraisers.
Proficiency in using standard office software and email platforms, with the ability to adapt to new tools.
Ability to work well with others, particularly in collaboration with Fundraising, HR and Communications teams.
Alignment with Mustard Tree's core values of Belief, Dignity, Opportunity, Diversity, and Partnership.
Desirable:
Experience in stewardship and stakeholder management.
Experience in fundraising, sales, and/or account management.
Experience in supporting fundraising campaigns or initiatives.
Experience in delivering events to scale.
Previous experience working in a charity setting, especially in roles involving donors, stakeholders, and supporters.
General Duties:
Support other staff and departments, occasionally providing practical relief cover for work-streams, operational areas, classes and clubs.
Work within health & safety guidelines and Mustard Tree policies and procedures.
Take responsibility for professional development, attending training courses as required.
Lead by example, embodying Mustard Tree values and representing the charity as required.
Contribute to Mustard Tree being an environmentally responsible organisation as part of day-to-day activities, including recycling, and supporting our 'paper-light' practices.
Other tasks and duties relevant to the role as required by the organisation.
