Role Overview
We're looking for a skilled
Industrial Gearbox Fitter
to join our team in Huddersfield. In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for the full lifecycle of gearbox refurbishment--including inspection, disassembly, rebuild, and testing--working with units from 50kg to 10 tonnes.
While the role is predominantly workshop-based, occasional travel (less than 10%) may be required for site visits or inspections. This position is ideal for someone with solid industry experience who can work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild various types of industrial gearboxes (helical, bevel, worm, planetary, etc.)
Identify faults and assess wear or damage to components
Accurately interpret technical drawings and specifications
Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, verniers, and DTI gauges
Ensure all work meets internal and customer quality standards
Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other workshop machinery safely
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
Complete all necessary documentation and service reports
Provide occasional support with on-site inspections or servicing
Essential Skills & Experience
Demonstrable experience working with industrial gearboxes (workshop or field-based)
Ability to independently strip down, assess, and rebuild gearboxes
Strong mechanical fitting skills
Proficient in using precision measurement tools
Sound understanding of health and safety protocols
Competent in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Physically capable of handling heavy equipment
Full UK driving licence (preferred due to occasional travel)
Desirable Qualifications
Valid overhead crane and/or forklift licence (training available if needed)
Experience with dynamic balancing or gearbox testing equipment
