Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Gearbox Fitter to join our team in Huddersfield. This hands-on role involves managing the full refurbishment process of gearboxes--from inspection and disassembly to rebuild and testing--working with units ranging from 50kg to 10 tonnes. While primarily based in our workshop, occasional site visits or inspections (less than 10%) may be required. This position is ideal for a self-motivated professional capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild various types of industrial gearboxes (helical, bevel, worm, planetary, etc.) Detect faults and evaluate wear or damage on components Accurately interpret technical drawings and specifications Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, vernier gauges, and DTI gauges Ensure all work complies with internal and customer quality standards Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and workshop machinery Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment Complete relevant documentation and service reports Assist with occasional on-site inspections or servicing

Essential Skills & Experience:

Proven experience working with industrial gearboxes, either in a workshop or field capacity Ability to independently strip, assess, and rebuild gearboxes Strong mechanical fitting skills Proficiency in using precision measurement tools Good understanding of health and safety procedures Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Physically capable of handling heavy equipment Full UK driving license (preferred, due to occasional travel)

Desirable Qualifications:

Valid overhead crane and/or forklift license (training available if needed) Experience with dynamic balancing or gearbox testing equipment
