Job Title:

Infrastructure Engineer Networks (Azure)



Contract:

Permanent


Working Hours:

Full-time, 35 hours per week ( The team offers support 07:00-18:00 and you will be working on a rotational basis. Occasional out of hours work will be required, this will be paid or time off in lieu . Occasional travel to other sites will be required)


Salary:

65,000 - 75,000 depending on experience.


Location:

London Docklands (Hybrid), Manchester & Coventry. Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.

The Financial Ombudsman Service has been resolving customer complaints since 2001. Our service is free for consumers to use and over 1 million people contact us every year.

Our IT and Transformation teams and their work are closely aligned. Last year we welcomed our new CTO and this year will see him launch the new IT strategy for the department. With the move to cloud computing in 2023 and the ever-changing technology landscape, it is a very exciting time to be joining the Technology team here at the Financial Ombudsman Service.


Using a cloud first approach, our Infrastructure department provides the foundation for all of our IT and communication services.


As an experienced Network Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining the stability and performance of our core modern enterprise infrastructure and systems. You will help deliver ongoing service improvements and contribute to the implementation of projects, ensuring that current and future requirements are met.

highly desirable

if candidates are studying towards or are qualified with Cisco CCNP or CCIE, as well as some experience in Infrastructure as Code methodologies and tooling.


Key Responsibilities:



Ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of our cloud and hybrid network infrastructure, you'll be one of the go-to engineers for anything related to

Azure, automation, and cloud networking

. You'll take ownership of escalated technical issues, working across teams to deliver sustainable, secure, and automated solutions.





As a strong communicator, you'll collaborate closely with other teams and end users to understand technical requirements and identify areas for improvement, particularly in relation to Azure networking, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud automation.


Create and maintain documentation related to network/cloud design, deployment, and configuration. Drive the implementation of new technical solutions within Azure, ensuring secure and scalable deployments. You will be part of a Network Teams whereby you are required to support an Enterprise network with a primary focus on Business as usual (BAU) and project support across all of our Network Systems. Lead troubleshooting efforts, incident resolution, and performance optimization within the cloud environment. Take full ownership of day-to-day support tasks, working to meet and exceed defined SLAs.

Minimum Criteria:



Strong communication skills - able to explain complex cloud networking concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proven experience resolving infrastructure-related problems and delivering upgrades and improvements in cloud or hybrid environments. Demonstrated ability to define and implement technical solutions using Azure-native services and automation. Solid background as a network engineer, with experience in both traditional and cloud-based networking models, particularly in Microsoft Azure.

Technical Skills & Experience:



Microsoft Azure IaaS, including Virtual Networks, VPN Gateways, Azure Firewall, NSGs, Load Balancers Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep, or similar tooling IP Routing for hybrid/cloud environments: OSPF, BGP, VXLAN, IPSec, MPLS Automation and Scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python) Cisco Networking: Routers, switches (Catalyst/Nexus), SD-WAN, Wireless VPN & Remote Access Solutions (Cisco Secure Client, AnyConnect, ASAv) Cloud and On-Prem Security Solutions: Cisco ISE, Checkpoint, Palo Alto (PAN-OS, Panorama) Application Delivery & Load Balancing: F5 BIG-IP (LTM/GTM), BIG-IQ Monitoring and Observability: SolarWinds Orion, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics

Highly Desirable:



Cisco certifications: CCNP, CCIE, or equivalents Experience with Zero Trust architecture and cloud governance Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure integration (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
