This is a unique opportunity to make a profound and positive impact on a sensitive, creative, and technically minded neurodivergent young person, helping them to flourish and progress their skillset. If you're a reflective practitioner, genuinely easy going, and eager to explore alternative, bottom-up approaches to education, we want to hear from you.

Location:

Contract Type:

Employed or Self-employed, starting at 10 hours per week, with potential to increase. We are open to considering flexible working arrangements, including job sharing. Please state your preference in your application.

About Us:

We are a supportive family seeking a compassionate Interest-Led Learning Facilitator to support our neurodivergent young person with their wellbeing, learning and community access. We passionately believe in creating a safe and supportive environment where our young person's unique talents and interests can be nurtured and flourish. We work closely with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team of professionals who provide direct and indirect support to our young person, and will be there to work alongside the successful candidate, ensuring a collaborative approach centred in professional and personal development.

The Opportunity:

This role offers a rare and unique chance to work alongside a remarkable young person, fostering their well-being and education through interest-led learning. You will have the freedom to explore innovative educational approaches, guided by experts, and tailored to the young person's strengths and preferences. This is an ideal position for someone deeply immersed in gamer culture, game design, and digital design, who can bring their own passions to the table to connect with the young person.

The Role:

As an Interest-Led Learning Facilitator, you will be working initially on building relational safety and trust with the young person through the context of their family, before engaging directly with the young person yourself. Longer term, your core work will be to facilitate self-directed interests supporting wellbeing, learning and community access, providing scaffolding to develop further skills and pursuits collaboratively. This will involve working online with the family and the young person's key professionals, as well as engaging directly alongside the young person in the family home. You will have a blend of direct hours, and indirect hours, to undertake training, be involved in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, be involved in the annual review process, and write progress reports. You will be instrumental in helping the young person transfer their understanding from Roblox Creator to more complex software interfaces like Blender, supporting their passion for environment design, level design, 3D modelling, game mechanics, scripting, and skins. This young person has an innate design thinking and iterative problem-solving skillset, so the role will suit a candidate who is comfortable with a creative mindset and who able to work at the young person's pace; being a supportive facilitator rather than providing direct teaching

Why Join Our Team:

You will be an integral part of a supportive ecosystem dedicated to the young person's success, working alongside a skilled team of professionals. This role offers the profound satisfaction of making a lasting, positive impact on a young person's life, helping them navigate past educational difficulties to embrace their full potential. You will be empowered to apply neuroaffirming practices, championing the young person's autonomy and self-determination. We offer on-the-job training around neurodiversity to further enhance your expertise and you will be working with an established team of professionals who will be able to offer ongoing professional development and supervision to support you.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop a close, trusting, and safe working relationship with the young person and their family, prioritising relational safety and regulation. Liaise closely and openly with the young person's family, who are key to successful engagement. Facilitate and scaffold interest-led learning, particularly in gaming, digital design, and online culture. Provide technical assistance and support for the young person's creative and technical pursuits, such as game design, 3D modelling, and bug or glitch hunting. Adapt your approach to the young person's disposition, recognising when to engage directly and when to work in companionable silence. Participate in MDT meetings, Annual Review processes, and contribute to report writing and progress mapping. Understand and respect the young person's communication differences, including challenging language, with compassion and non-judgment. Collaborate with the wider professional team to understand the young person's case history and provide tailored, bespoke support.

What We Can Offer:

Competitive pay: 30-60 per hour. 10hrs a week building to 20 or 24hrs depending on the role. Flexible part-time hours: Scheduled on a mutually agreeable basis. Immediate start.
