The Internal Business Development Manager plays a key role in supporting the company's growth by focusing on the development of existing client relationships, driving internal sales activities, and contributing to marketing and lead generation efforts.
This role combines elements of account management, sales support, and outbound marketing to enhance customer engagement, generate repeat business, and support wider business development initiatives. Working closely with the external sales team, marketing, and operations, you will ensure a joined-up approach to customer service and business growth.
What the Internal Business Development Manager role is:
Account Management & Customer Engagement
Act as the first point of contact for a portfolio of existing customers.
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships to encourage repeat business and customer loyalty.
Identify opportunities for account growth, upselling, or cross-selling based on client needs.
Sales Support
Support the external Business Development Managers by preparing quotations, proposals, and tender documentation.
Coordinate sales administration tasks including CRM updates, sales pipeline tracking, and reporting.
Ensure all customer data and interactions are accurately logged within CRM systems (Salesforce and Navision).
Collaborate with operations to ensure seamless project handovers and service delivery.
Marketing & Campaign Support
Assist the marketing team with the delivery of campaigns and customer communications.
Help prepare marketing materials and coordinate outbound activities such campaign follow-ups.
Track basic engagement data and support campaign reporting as needed.
Outbound Business Development
Conduct outbound outreach to dormant accounts and qualified leads to re-engage interest and generate opportunities.
Follow up on marketing-generated leads to qualify prospects and schedule appointments for the external sales team.
Maintain a structured approach to outreach, using CRM to track engagement.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience in a sales support, internal sales, or account management role.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-first mindset.
Highly organised with strong administrative and time management skills.
Comfortable with outbound communication and lead follow-up (phone, email, CRM).
Experience working with CRM systems (Salesforce and/or Navision desirable).
Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and/or marketing platforms (desirable).
Full, clean UK driving licence.
