We are seeking a proactive and results-driven Internal Sales Executive to join our team within a busy builders merchant environment. This is a phone-based, target-oriented role focused on generating outbound calls to the building trade. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and converting leads, managing customer relationships, growing accounts, and handling inbound enquiries. The primary objective of the role is to drive sales through outbound calling
Role Purpose
The Internal Sales Executive plays a critical role in driving revenue growth through proactive outbound sales activity. Operating within a builders merchant environment, the role is primarily phone-based and target-driven, focused on generating new business from the building trade, converting leads into active accounts, and managing ongoing customer relationships. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving sales targets, handling inbound enquiries, and contributing to the overall commercial success of the branch.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct high-volume outbound sales calls to prospective and existing trade customers
Identify and qualify new business opportunities within the building and construction sector
Convert leads into trading accounts and develop them into long-term revenue-generating relationships
Manage and grow a portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring consistent engagement and satisfaction
Achieve and exceed individual sales targets and KPIs
Respond to inbound customer enquiries, providing quotations, product information, and order support
Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales activity, and pipeline status using CRM systems
Promote relevant offers, new products, and seasonal campaigns to drive customer interest
Liaise with internal teams to ensure smooth order processing and customer service delivery

Essential Criteria:
Proven experience in a phone-based sales role, ideally within a builders merchant, trade, or construction-related environment
Strong communication skills with a confident and professional telephone manner
Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed sales targets
Customer-focused approach with strong relationship-building capabilities
Self-motivated, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities
Competent in using CRM systems and basic sales reporting tools
Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of building materials and trade products
Experience working in a merchant or distribution setting
Familiarity with local construction and trade customer base
