As an IT Apprentice within our Technical Services team, you'll be part of a modern, fast-paced environment where technology is essential to keeping our business running smoothly.
Role Overview
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin their IT career. As an IT Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience across IT support, infrastructure, applications, and digital project delivery. You'll work alongside experienced technicians while developing practical skills and contributing to real business operations.
Key Responsibilities
As part of your apprenticeship, you will support the Technical Services team with tasks such as:
Delivering 1st and 2nd line technical support to staff and clients, helping resolve IT issues promptly.
Assisting in the maintenance of computer systems, business applications, and IT infrastructure across multiple sites.
Logging, managing, and following up on incidents and service requests.
Working with third-party suppliers to help escalate and resolve technical issues.
Creating and updating technical documentation, guides, and knowledge base articles.
Supporting user account administration, including onboarding and offboarding processes.
Helping to maintain business-critical applications to ensure strong performance and reliability.
Learning to support internal order management and stock control systems (training provided).
Assisting with new client onboarding and system integrations.
Getting involved in eCommerce, web, and IT development projects.
Providing support for the maintenance and improvement of web and desktop applications.
Updating and maintaining client websites to keep content accurate and functional.
Skills & Qualities We're Looking For
Essential Skills:
Good problem-solving skills with an interest in IT support.
Basic understanding of Windows systems, hardware, and common software.
Awareness of networking concepts (training provided).
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to stay organised and prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
Keen to learn new technologies and develop technical skills.
Desirable Skills/Experience (Not essential):
Knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, or CMS tools.
Understanding of eCommerce platforms or desktop applications.
Exposure to order management or inventory systems.
Experience using ticketing systems or working through incident resolutions.
A Level 3 IT qualification or similar (or working towards one).
Additional Information regarding the apprenticeship:
You will be required to work in person at The PHL Group in Welshpool on a full-time basis (with time made for digital delivery of the apprenticeship programme).
If successful at interview with The PHL Group in Welshpool, you will be invited to an Apprenticeship Awareness Session with Catapwlt as an informal interview.

GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade A*-C / Level 2:
GCSE (or equivalent) in an IT subject:
Training provided.
On the job training to be provided by employer
Off the job training to be provided by Catapwlt
Learning Provider Course
Apprenticeship Level 3 - Digital Infrastructure Engineer Level 3
Welsh Language Requirements

Interview Arrangements
If successful, you will initially be invited to assessment at Catapwlt (via Teams to confirm eligibility - please have available proof of ID and any relevant certificates. You will be sent an application via Catapwlt Smart Assessor Digital Platform and it is a mandatory requirement to attend our Apprenticeship Awareness Session.
Additional Instructions
Please do not apply for the position if you have a Degree within Computer Science or a similar discipline as you will not be eligible for the apprenticeship position.
You must be a resident in Wales and have lived in Wales for 3 years
The Apprenticeship will be starting in January, and will be delivered virtually.
