What to Expect
We are recruiting for Industrial Placement Interns to join our fantastic IT team at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. As an IT Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in either our Cybersecurity or Data & AI team while developing your skills in a world-class, high-performance automotive environment.
This is a 12-month full-time Industrial Placement designed to build your technical capabilities, commercial awareness, and confidence working across a fast-paced technology function.
Please note this is an on-site position.
What You'll Do
During your Industrial Placement, you'll spend the year embedded in one of our core specialist teams, gaining meaningful, project-based experience and contributing to key operational and strategic objectives.
Data & AI:

  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines, incorporating AI-driven optimisation techniques.
  • Support ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure accurate and timely data flows, leveraging AI for enhanced data transformation and anomaly detection.
  • Work with data analysts to support operational reporting and business intelligence, using AI to uncover deeper insights and predictive analytics.
  • Help ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity through validation and monitoring tools, enhanced by AI algorithms for real-time error detection and correction.
Cybersecurity:
  • Monitor real-time security alerts and support incident response efforts.
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of security policies and controls.
  • Conduct exposure scans and assist in risk mitigation actions.
  • Help build awareness campaigns and training materials to enhance cybersecurity culture.
You'll also have access to development workshops, mentorship, and structured performance reviews to support your career growth and professional development.
What You'll Bring
  • You must be currently studying for a relevant IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Data Science degree at a UK university and predicted to achieve a 2:1 or above.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • A genuine interest in emerging technologies and how IT supports innovation.
You must also bring a passion for cars, and a desire to work at the cutting edge of the automotive industry within our IT business area.
