The IT Services department plays a vital role in supporting the University's teaching, research, and administrative functions. Our Desktop Services Team provides reliable and responsive IT support to staff across all departments, ensuring that technology enhances productivity, collaboration, and innovation across the University.

About the Role


Please note:

Due to the hands-on and customer-facing nature of this role, this role is based on-site at the University of Oxford, with no hybrid or remote working options.
As an IT Support Officer, you will provide 2nd line technical support for Windows desktops across the University. Your work will include diagnosing and repairing hardware and software issues, deploying and rebuilding desktops, managing user accounts, and supporting staff remotely or onsite. You will monitor the service desk system, resolve or escalate incidents, and ensure that accurate records of hardware, software, and user activities are maintained. The role also involves contributing to technical documentation and staying up to date with IT developments to continuously improve the service we provide. This is a customer-facing role where you will interact with staff at all levels, requiring excellent communication skills and a professional approach to support. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to specialized projects, such as providing technical support for University examinations.

About You


In-depth experience supporting Windows operating systems and PC desktops/laptops. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose hardware vs software faults. Understanding of networking concepts and software applications, including Microsoft Office. Ability to manage and prioritise workload, working independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
