IT Engineer - Modern Workplace & Networking

Cobalt Business IT & Comms is looking for an experienced

IT Engineer

to join our team in Exeter. This is an office-based role, perfect for someone with around four years' experience across modern workplace technologies and networking. You'll play a key role in supporting our customers and helping us deliver innovative, secure, and reliable IT solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end-users, ensuring smooth day-to-day IT operations. Configure, manage, and maintain Microsoft 365 and modern workplace environments (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune). Support, maintain, and improve networking infrastructure including firewalls, switches, VPNs, and Wi-Fi. Assist with the delivery of IT projects, including system upgrades, cloud migrations, and security enhancements. Proactively monitor systems and resolve issues to minimise downtime. Document processes, configurations, and technical solutions for internal use. Work closely with colleagues and customers to deliver excellent service and continuous improvements.

Skills & Experience Required

Around four years' experience in a similar IT support or engineering role. Strong knowledge of

Microsoft 365

(administration and deployment). Experience with

Windows 10/11

and server environments. Solid understanding of

networking fundamentals

(LAN/WAN, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP). Hands-on experience with switches, firewalls, and Wi-Fi solutions. Familiarity with device and security management tools (e.g., Intune, Endpoint Manager). Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, customer-focused approach. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable (not essential)

Relevant certifications (Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, etc.). Experience in managed services or multi-site environments.
