Job Profile: Local E-commerce Bookkeeper (Part-Time/Contract)
Overview
We are seeking a
highly organized, local, and experienced Bookkeeper
to manage the accounts for our portfolio of multiple, fast-paced e-commerce companies. The ideal candidate must have a deep understanding of the unique financial challenges in the e-commerce space, including multi-platform sales, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), inventory tracking, and sales tax compliance across various jurisdictions. This is a part-time/contract role with flexible hours, requiring regular on-site or virtual check-ins (as preferred).
Key Responsibilities
The primary focus will be on maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for several online businesses, including:
Transaction Management & Categorization:
Meticulously record, categorize, and track all daily transactions from various e-commerce sales channels (e.g., Shopify, Amazon, Etsy, eBay, etc.) and payment processors (e.g., PayPal, Stripe).
Account Reconciliation:
Perform regular, thorough bank, credit card, and e-commerce platform payout reconciliations to ensure 100% accuracy and identify discrepancies (e.g., merchant fees, refunds, chargebacks).
Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) & Inventory:
Accurately calculate and track COGS, manage inventory valuation, and ensure inventory records align with sales data across all platforms.
Expense & Accounts Payable/Receivable:
Process and record all operational expenses (e.g., marketing, shipping, software subscriptions), manage accounts payable (supplier invoices), and accounts receivable.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare monthly or quarterly financial statements, including Profit & Loss (P&L), Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement to provide clear, actionable financial insights.
Tax Compliance Support:
Assist in gathering all necessary financial data and documentation to facilitate timely and accurate filing of sales tax, VAT, and annual income taxes (working alongside our CPA/Tax Accountant).
Required Skills & Experience
Proven Bookkeeping Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of professional bookkeeping experience.
E-commerce Specialization:
Demonstrable experience working with e-commerce businesses, specifically managing multiple sales channels and understanding the flow of marketplace transactions.
Software Proficiency (Must-Haves):
Expert-level proficiency with a major cloud-based accounting software (e.g.,
QuickBooks Online
or
Xero
).
E-commerce App/Integration Knowledge:
Familiarity with common e-commerce accounting integrations (e.g., A2X, LinkMyBooks, or similar) is a major asset.
Attention to Detail:
Exceptional precision and dedication to accuracy in all data entry and reconciliation tasks.
Organizational Skills:
Excellent time management and organizational abilities to handle the records of multiple separate entities efficiently.
Local/Communication:
Must be locally based (or within a reasonable distance) for occasional meetings and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills to explain financial data clearly.
