Purpose of the Role
This is an opportunity for an experience and creative online journalist to write technology stories for domestic and international audiences. The BBC News website is one of the world's largest and most popular sites. It attracts millions of readers every day and we lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on the biggest events happening around the world. Our aim is to tell and break important technology stories in a way that a broad audience understand.

This is a varied role combining covering breaking news stories and pitching original tech stories to attract a younger and more diverse audience. You will be part of a team of 20 journalists based in Glasgow - the wider team work across TV, radio and digital. We have built a hub of journalistic excellence, broadcasting to the world with a particular remit to explain how technology is impacting all of our lives in an accessible way.
Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
-It's a fun and varied job, where you'll write and report on a range of stories from straight news to analysis, features and live page posts.
- You must be able to make sense of tech stories and identify the strong top line which will resonate with a non-tech specialist.
-You will need to be able to work at pace, getting the first draft of important stories written and published in minutes.
-You will be expected to come up with original ideas for stories as well as how to treat them and suggest and carry out interviews with relevant people to make our technology stories distinctive.
-This is primarily a digital role writing stories for the BBC website - but there will be opportunities to develop other reporting skills from time to time.
Your Skills and Experience
- At least three years' experience of writing and editing fast-paced, breaking news for digital audiences with attention to accuracy, context and tone
- Proven ability to cut through jargon, and make complex stories appealing and understandable to a broad audience
-Experience of writing in a variety of formats to tight deadlines from breaking news and explainers to live page posts and analysis
- Proven ability to come up with angles and approaches to the big stories of the day that will help us reach new and diverse audiences
-- Excellent and demonstrable knowledge of technology and innovation in the UK and globally
