We have a fantastic opportunity for a Junior Chef to work and learn at our Tray cafe in Peterlee and join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in food preparation and cooking, with a keen interest in developing their culinary skills within a dynamic kitchen environment. This role is perfect for individuals looking to advance their career in the hospitality industry while contributing to the creation of exceptional dining experiences.
The successful applicant will be working with our existing Head Chef and our front of house team.
A little about us.
We are a business park in Peterlee and Tray Cafe is part of the service we provide to the park. We serve breakfast and lunch 8am till 3pm with a variety of hot and cold food and a good selection of healthy options, which changes daily. The cafe is well furnished and presented, which has a good health working environment.
Working hours
Between 20 and 30 hours per week depending on demand.
Wage per age
The ideal candidate.
Would have 2- or 3-years collage experience with certificates.
Must be a polite with good customer service.
Be able to work well as part of a team.
Will be well presented as cleanliness and hygiene is a big part of the role.
Duties
Assist in the preparation and cooking of various dishes, ensuring high standards of food quality and presentation.
Supervise kitchen staff during food production, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient workflow.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, adhering to food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
Collaborate with senior chefs to develop new recipes and menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
Manage inventory levels, ensuring that all necessary ingredients are stocked and properly stored.
Participate in training new kitchen staff on food preparation techniques, safety practices, and kitchen operations.
Engage with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery and address any customer feedback regarding food quality.
Experience
Previous experience in a kitchen environment is essential, with a focus on food preparation and cooking.
Supervising experience is advantageous, demonstrating leadership capabilities within a team setting.
Culinary experience or formal training in hospitality or culinary arts is preferred.
Familiarity with food safety standards and practices is required to maintain compliance within the kitchen.
Strong teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
