Job Description


The Junior Clinical Fellow posts include clinical and research opportunities, providing 3/4 days a week of day cover, 3/ 4 nights a week of night cover, day and night cover at weekends and bank holidays for HPB unit on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job
o The clinical component of the posts is to provide cover for the HPB inpatients. This is provided on a rotational basis providing 24 hour cover 7 days a week.
The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make to infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. These requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and in local policies and procedures which will be made clear during your induction and subsequent refresher training. These standards must be strictly complied with at all times.
The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.
To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King's College Hospital NHS Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
All employees must hold an 'nhs.net' email account which will be the Trust's formal route for email communication. You are therefore required to check this regularly and to deal with such communication promptly.

The Junior Clinical Fellow posts advertised combine clinical work and research opportunities.
The post-holders are expected to spend significant time in research. Projects may be purely clinically based or may have a laboratory component within the newly refurbished laboratories of the Institute of Liver Studies. The positions are for one year initially, but it may be possible to extend a contract depending on satisfactory progress and mutual agreement. There are opportunities for MD or MS.

Person Specification
Teaching
Essential

  • Eligible for registration with the GMC
  • Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate.
  • Core trainee experience, or equivalent in General Surgery.
  • Information technology skills.
  • Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical/ scientific approach
  • Ability to prioritise clinical need.
  • Ability to organise oneself & own work.
  • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • Displays honesty, integrity, aware of ethical dilemmas, respects confidentiality
Desirable
  • ALS (or equivalent) within 2 years.
  • MRCS or equivalent
