The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in marine engineering and a passion for overseeing vessel operations. As a Junior Engineering Technical Superintendent, you will work closely with the Senior Engineering Technical Superintendent to ensure the smooth operation of our fleet of vessels.
Your responsibilities will include assisting in the planning, coordination, and supervision of marine activities, while also supporting the development of the vessel engineers ensuring adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.

The Junior Engineering Technical Superintendent has shared responsibility for the maintenance, performance, and quality of the marine vessels, ensure they are in good working order and available to meet the project demands.
The Junior Engineering Technical Superintendent is responsible for developing and implementing maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure that all vessels maintained in optimal condition. This includes regular inspections, repairs, and upgrades to meet safety and regulatory standards.
The Junior Engineering Technical Superintendent will support the fleet engineers to address technical issues and breakdowns on board vessels, coordinating with the shore-based technical teams and Engineering Technical Superintendent to troubleshoot problems and find effective solutions.
In close collaboration with the Finance team and the Engineering Technical Superintendent, Junior Engineering Superintendent will oversee the budgets for the vessel maintenance and repair activities, ensuring that expenditures are within budgetary constraints while maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards.
Part of the Junior Engineering Technical Superintendents role will be to monitor the performance of marine engines, propulsion systems, and other critical machinery on board vessels, analysing data and trends to identify areas for improvement and optimise performance.
The Junior Marine Engineering Superintendent will play a key role in the event of emergencies or accidents with the vesselscoordinating response efforts, working with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the safety of crew members, , and the marine environment.
Part of the role will entail visiting the vessels in various locations to undertake vessel audits, support with planned maintenance and help the crews prepare for dry docking.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Routine Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of vessels, machinery, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
Maintenance Planning: Assist in planning and scheduling of maintenance activities for vessels, including dry-docking, repairs, and regular servicing.
Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs for regulatory compliance and historical reference.
Troubleshooting: Identify technical issues and collaborate with onboard personnel and shore-based teams to troubleshoot and resolve them promptly.
Budget Management: Assist in monitoring and controlling expenditures related to vessel maintenance, repairs, and spare parts procurement within allocated budgets.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant maritime regulations and ensure vessels adhere to safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Vendor Management: Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and suppliers for the procurement of spare parts, equipment, and services.
Risk Assessment: Participate in risk assessments and incident investigations to identify potential hazards and implement corrective/preventive measures.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies and provide technical support to vessels during critical situations, such as accidents or equipment failures.
Training and Development: Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical knowledge and skills related to marine engineering and operations.
Communication: Maintain effective communication channels with vessel crews, senior management, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination of technical activities.
Performance Monitoring: Assist in monitoring vessel performance metrics, such as fuel consumption, machinery efficiency, and voyage analysis, to optimize operations.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute ideas for enhancing efficiency, safety, and reliability in marine operations.
Ad Hoc Tasks: Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned by the senior management to support the overall objectives of the marine department.
Essential Qualifications/Certification:
Marine Engineering CoC plus relevant sea time.
Certifications: STCW, BOSIT and a ENG1
Knowledge of Regulatory Standards: Understanding of international maritime regulations and industry standards.
Five years of experience in marine engineering, shipyard operations, or a related field.
Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of marine engineering principles, ship systems, and equipment.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions, often in high-pressure situations.
Communication: Clear and effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with crew members, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Attention to Detail: Given the complexity of marine systems, meticulous attention to detail is crucial to ensure safety and compliance.
Project Management: Basic project management skills to oversee maintenance schedules, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with ship crews, shore-based staff, and external contractors.
Regulatory Compliance: Understanding and adherence to maritime regulations and industry best practices.
Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using relevant software for technical analysis, documentation, and reporting.

A high degree of confidence, common sense, leadership skills, business acumen, man management skills and initiative are required for this role along with exceptional numeracy. Diligent and accurate, the successful candidate will be comfortable managing their own time and prioritising their workload. The ability to learn, to communicate effectively with team members and to be flexible in all areas of the business is essential; you must thrive in an entrepreneurial and fast-moving marine organisation.
The position will include:
Standard Salary: 53,000 - 56,000
Annual holiday entitlement of 5.6 weeks / 28 days including bank holidays.
Full time hours nominal 5 days in 7, nominally 12 hours per day. Extra full days worked will be paid pro rata of your salary.
Development and training plan: KML is committed to continuing personal and professional development, including 1000 PA training allowance will look to your continuation of this and will agree a training plan with you.
