THE ROLE
The Junior Technician plays an essential role in supporting the technical team within the production department at Wake The Tiger. Working closely with the Technician, Senior Technician and Technical Coordinator, the Junior Technician will help maintain a variety of cutting-edge technical systems across the park. This role involves supporting routine maintenance and troubleshooting technical problems as they arise.
The Junior Technician will gain hands-on experience working with creative lighting, audio systems, interactive installations, mechanical features, and more. The Junior Technician will also be responsible for ensuring systems are operational during park hours and assisting with technical support when needed. The Junior Technician will have the opportunity to work on assigned projects, develop their technical expertise, and be part of the team that keeps the park running smoothly.
Hours are set via a rota, but flexibility and a willingness to take on overtime when needed are essential. This role requires adaptability, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to learn new tools, technologies and processes to support the team and enhance the park.
The Junior Technician will be responsible for opening and closing the park and be available via radio to provide technical support or respond to maintenance issues during operating hours. They are also responsible for administrative tasks, including logging issues and updating O&M manuals for installations. The Junior Technician should help facilitate a safe, creative and well-maintained environment for both the team and visitors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance and Technical Support
Support the team in maintaining technical systems and installations across the park.
Carry out routine checks and fault finding for all technical systems, including lighting (Artnet), audio (Ableton), interactive games (Raspberry Pi), object controllers (Arduino), mechanical installations (motors), and video environments (Resolume)
Play an active role in PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) tasks, ensuring systems such as audio, video and lighting are functioning properly
Administrative and Documentation Support
Log any technical issues and assist with the updating and maintenance of O&M manuals for installations.
Help the team maintain accurate records of repairs, updates and any changes to the technical systems.
Support the Technical Coordinator with scheduling, purchasing materials, and tracking receipts.
Health & Safety and Team Collaboration
? Ensure all technical work is carried out in compliance with health and safety standards.
? Work collaboratively with the team to maintain clean, organised technical areas.
? Support the team in developing solutions to improve the park's technical systems and overall visitor experience.
Project Work
? Work on individual technical projects assigned by the Technical Coordinator (TC),
collaborating with other team members to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
? Assist with prototyping and testing new systems, helping to develop innovative solutions for ongoing projects.
? Help with the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of technical systems as needed.
Support in Venue Hire
? Step in to fill gaps in the rota during periods of increased venue hire demand, providing support as necessary to maintain operations.
? Assist with venue setups and technical support during events, ensuring smooth operations of technical systems for venue hires.
Park Operations Support
? Be part of the technical team available during park operations to respond to maintenance issues and provide support.
? Respond to technical issues during park hours and ensure any issues are resolved quickly to minimise disruption.
? Support daily park operations by ensuring technical systems are functional and
well-maintained.
? Contribute to the continuous improvement of the park by identifying opportunities for upgrades and enhancements.
? Maintain accurate documentation, including fault logs, technical manuals, and maintenance records.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
Essential
? Basic technical experience (1-2 years) in a related field, with a willingness to learn and grow in a hands-on role.
? Ability to follow instructions and assist in fault finding under the guidance of the Senior Technician and Technical Coordinator.
? Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
? Flexibility to work to a rota on evenings, weekends, and additional overtime as needed.
? Proactive, with good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently when required.
? A desire to learn new technologies and maintain a positive, can-do attitude.
? Willingness to take on a variety of tasks and contribute to all aspects of technical work in the park.
? Interest in creative technologies, including lighting, sound, interactive installations, or
mechanical systems.
? Interest in location-based entertainment including immersive experiences, theme parks and theatre.
Desirable
? Familiarity with task management systems like Notion or similar tools.
? Experience with event setups or venue support in a technical capacity.
? Qualifications in a related subject
? Understanding of health and safety protocols in technical work environments.
