In this role, you will be responsible for the design, operation, and development of drivetrain and future energy system test programmes, with a particular emphasis on electrical testing activities. This will involve engaging with clients, providing technical leadership within projects, managing defined project tasks, and delivering high-quality technical outputs.

Position




We are seeking a Junior or Graduate Test Engineer with an interest in renewable energy to join our Drivetrain team, delivering comprehensive testing and consultancy services for customers and collaborators. As part of ORE Catapult's mission to accelerate offshore renewable technologies, this role plays a key part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our world-leading drivetrain test facilities. By supporting industry projects and research programmes, the Test Engineer will help validate and advance technology readiness levels, contributing to the successful deployment of clean energy solutions.

What will I do?



Carry out testing on renewable energy projects at ORE Catapult Blyth; Support in the set up and configuration of test pieces, electrical systems, and instrumentation. Support the design of test programs and test plans to meet customer/regulatory requirements. Operate test equipment and acquire data in line with defined procedures. Analyse test data and author technical reports suitable for internal and external clients. Support failure investigations, capture lessons learned, and contribute to process improvements. Perform basic HSE management tasks (i.e risk assessments, training etc) Work with Engineers, Technicians, and project management from other teams and projects as required Assist in the development of facility improvements, test processes, and R&D activities.

What are we looking for?





Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline , preferably at Masters level. Some exposure to electrical, mechanical testing or validation (through study, projects or work placement) Knowledge of diagnostic techniques and remedial actions for test equipment. Highly computer literate, with a detailed working knowledge of Matlab or similar programming platforms. Strong communication skills, with ability to present technical work to management and external peers. Experience preparing technical reports, data analyses, or documentation with minimal review required. Ability to work flexibly around testing requirements, including work at height and confined spaces.

Desirable



Experience with Matlab/Simulink and data acquisition tools such as SCADA, LabVIEW, or Diadem. Knowledge of instrumentation and calibration or measurement systems Awareness of ISO 9001 and IEC 17025 standards. Client-facing experience, able to engage confidently in technical discussions. Knowledge of renewable energy systems and drivetrain technologies. Technical knowledge / or experience in the principles of testing, failure modes, engineering design, instrumentation or control systems.
