Job Title: Kitchen Assistant/ Relief Cook

Reports to: Home Manager or person in charge

As part of our commitment to excellence, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team.

The Kitchen Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the kitchen operations within our care home. They work closely with the kitchen team to ensure the smooth running of food preparation and service, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and providing assistance where needed.

Key Responsibilities:



1.

Food Preparation:

Assist in the preparation of meals according to set menus, ensuring all dishes are prepared in accordance with dietary requirements, portion control guidelines, and quality standards.

2.

Food Service:

Support with meal service to residents, including setting up dining areas, serving meals, and clearing tables promptly and efficiently.

3.

Kitchen Hygiene:

Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas, following health and safety regulations and infection control procedures at all times.

4.

Stock Management:

Assist with stock rotation, storage, and ordering of food supplies and kitchen equipment to ensure adequate levels are maintained.

5.

Assistance to Chef/Cook:

Provide support to the Chef or Cook as required, including ingredient preparation, kitchen organisation, and basic cooking tasks.

6.

Dishwashing:

Operate commercial dishwashing equipment to clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, ensuring they are sanitized and stored appropriately.

7.

Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and care home colleagues to deliver a high standard of service and support to residents.

8.

Customer Service:

Interact with residents in a friendly and respectful manner, responding to their needs and requests promptly and with empathy.

Qualifications and Skills:



Previous experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably within a care home or similar setting.

Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when required.

Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry supplies, and perform repetitive tasks.
