Cherry Red's is an independent cafe and pub with a community spirit and supportive team. Our fresh, cooked to order, menu caters for all diets, having served vegan and no gluten containing options for 15 years. We serve the same menu all day, from homemade American style pancakes to hearty salads and burgers. Our rooms upstairs are available to hire with frequent buffets to plan for and prepare.
We are looking for an experienced senior chef or current kitchen manager to lead and train a team of our committed Sous chef, 2 full time and 3 part time kitchen team members. We insist on a good work/life balance, with a 42 hour contract and generally only involving 1 or 2 evenings a week. Pay is negotiable depending on experience. It is, however, expected that you be available weekends and over Christmas (Christmas Day and Boxing Day we are closed, but busy throughout December). As a chef trained owner I consider the kitchen manager my right hand person, working together on following food trends, maintaining standards and building the business. With that in mind I look for a proactive, engaging and self motivated person with excellent communication skills.
This is an all rounder role, you will sometimes be working by yourself, and so must be willing to be involved with all aspects of kitchen work, especially cleaning. You must have a solid background in fresh food preparation, ordering, prep & par, menu planning including costing, maximising efficiency for speed of service and a can-do attitude including basic DIY skills! You should be passionate about maintaining a clean and organised workspace in a busy environment. Knowledge of food hygiene, stock rotation, knife skills and allergens is essential.
