Overview: To prepare meals and manage kitchen staff

Core Purpose
To prepare all meals and ensure that the regulations pertaining to the safe and hygienic operation of the kitchen are met. To manage the Kitchen Assistants to provide a smooth efficient food service. Responsible for complying to guidelines and standards. Ordering of goods, paperwork and keeping records up to date as necessary.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Food
Responsible for preparation and production of all meals including preparation of vegetables, salads, fruit, sweet and savoury sauces, milk, puddings, cakes, pastries, sandwiches and cooking of same if appropriate.
Running the food service to serve to children and staff.
To cater for special dietary needs and have an awareness of students with any allergies etc
To adhere to and maintain all relevant Food Hygiene and Health and Safety legislation as required by law within the catering industry
To liaise with the head/teachers regarding themed days and calendar events
Management
To manage and organise the Kitchen Assistants accordingly giving clear instructions to provide an outstanding food service
To carry out performance management with the Kitchen Assistants and identify any training needs
To accurately manage stock levels, maintain records and procedures (eg. fridge & freezer temperature record)
To ensure staff are trained on using kitchen equipment.
To ensure that all equipment is in full working order and meets all Health and Safety requirements
Service Delivery
To manage the delivery of an effective, high quality catering service for the Academy to ensure a smooth and effective service is delivered on time
To encourage and promote students to eat a variety of different dishes
To observe Health and Safety good practice so you and your colleagues are safe
To observe food hygiene regulations in order to prevent contamination of food to ensure food is safe to eat
To assist in set up and clear dining/service area when required
To accommodate the catering requirements in the event of special functions eg. Open Days
To supply catering to other schools in the trust
Cleaning
To keep all work areas and surfaces clean and tidy at all times including at the end of the day/shift
Cleaning and tidying of the kitchen including non-term deep cleans
Ensure all items are washed up and tidied away accordingly
Washing of the towels, cloths and any other items
Other
To ensure the security of stores during working hours
To report and where possible take action about compliments or complaints
To report and where possible take action for any incidents, fire, loss, theft, damage, unfit food and other irregularities.
To attend meetings and training courses
To carry out any reasonable request by management/supervisor
To uphold and put into practice the requirement to safeguard and promote the welfare of students in day to day dealings with them
The duties above are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required by the Headteacher to carry out appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills and grade.
