The Kitchen Porter plays a vital role in supporting the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen. This position is responsible for maintaining high levels of cleanliness, assisting with basic food preparation, and ensuring chefs and kitchen staff have the tools and equipment they need during service.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and equipment.
Ensure cleaning schedules are followed, including floors, surfaces, waste areas, and food preparation zones.
Operate dishwashers and ensure all equipment is properly sanitised.
Assist chefs with basic food prep tasks such as peeling, chopping, or portioning ingredients (as required).
Put away deliveries and rotate stock according to food safety guidelines.
Empty bins regularly and manage waste disposal safely.
Keep kitchen equipment and storage areas clean and tidy.
Report any maintenance or safety issues to the Kitchen Manager or Head Chef.
Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene standards at all times.
Skills & Qualifications
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Basic understanding of food hygiene practices (training can be provided).
Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
