Based on the outskirts of Cambridge, Pretoria Energy is an ambitious, growing, renewable energy business at the cutting-edge of investment, research and production of carbon-neutral green energy.

We are looking for a competent Lab Technician to work in our laboratory supporting our anaerobic digestion (AD) and Carbon capture facilities in a role that is integral to continued business growth and development of specialist green-energy anaerobic digestion technologies.

Reporting to our Laboratory Manager in a friendly, fast-paced environment, tasks are varied and interesting, at the cutting-edge of biogas production and have a direct impact on the business and our vision of providing carbon-neutral green energy.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Laboratory Manager, as a Lab Technician, you will be trained in the various specifics of the role and be responsible for:

Monitoring anaerobic digestion (AD) plant parameters such as pH, %DS (Dry Solids), alkalinity ammonia, VFA (Volatile Fatty Acids) & biogas quality Being a specialist in Quality Control and laboratory control & process optimisation Ensuring lab sampling of all streams of AD plant operation and communicate result to the operations team Input laboratory result into business system to generate reports on AD plant performance Managing laboratory inventory such that the site never runs out of re-agents needed to conduct analysis Calibration of instruments to ensure consistent and accurate data Ensure laboratory cleanliness and hygiene in conformity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) As the business expands, there will be testing for the Food manufacturing sector Other tasks and duties as required

Skills & Qualifications:

Science focused academic background with strong understanding of Chemistry and Biology 2+ years' experience of rigorous scientific testing and analysis in sectors such as Agriculture, Pharma, Food industry or similar environment Good working knowledge of a laboratory environment and best practice Ability to identify and interpret trends and abnormalities in test results with attention to detail Anaerobic Digestion experience would be desirable but not essential Food industry testing experience would be desirable but not essential

Friendly and sociable, able to work and interact with colleagues across the business from Plant Operatives to Directors Must be happy to work indoors and outdoors in a role that will require you to be physically active all year round in an agricultural environment. Excellent written and verbal communication for accurate reporting Motivated and pro-active attitude with willingness to learn Ambitious and capable of responsibility for tasks and small projects Residing or relocating within 60 minute commute of Ely, Cambridgeshire Full UK driving licence (Car or Motorbike) essential Entitlement to work in the UK

Salary & Package:

Competitive starting salary, depending on experience Training on job specific tasks 20 days annual leave + Bank Holidays Possible overtime at peak periods Statutory Pension Monday to Friday, starting at 7.30am and finishing at 4.30pm
Pretoria Energy is conveniently located within an easy commute from Ely, Cambridge, Huntingdon, Peterborough and surrounding area. UK driving licence (Car or Motorbike) is essential.
