We are seeking a skilled and practical Lab Technician with proven hands-on experience in soldering, rework, mechanical assembly, and electronic testing. The ideal candidate will have a proactive "get it done" attitude and thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment. You will support a wide range of projects, including prototype builds, calibration, and day-to-day lab operations, while ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality.

Location and Travel



Primary business location is Farnborough, Hampshire.

Position is an on-site role

Travel within the UK may be required.

Key Responsibilities



? Carry out precision soldering and rework, including fine-pitch SMD components and through-hole devices to IPC standards.

? Perform mechanical assembly, jig fabrication, and basic machining or 3D printing for test fixtures.

? Assist in the setup, calibration, and operation of standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, etc.).

? Conduct functional testing and basic calibration of assemblies, wiring harnesses, and prototype systems.

? Assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic and electromechanical prototypes.

? Support environmental, reliability, and compliance testing, including ESD checks and ISO documentation.

? Maintain lab tools, equipment, and workspaces in line with health and safety procedures.

? Read and work from technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions.

? Proactively identify issues, suggest improvements, and take ownership of tasks to completion.

? Participate in fault-finding, rework, and repair of assemblies.

Skills & Experience



? Proven experience with fine-pitch soldering and component rework.

? Strong mechanical skills, including drilling, tapping, fitting, and use of hand tools.

? Familiarity with CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) or PCB design software (advantageous).

? Experience in assembling and testing electronic products, including calibration tasks.

? Knowledge of ESD safety procedures and general health & safety in a lab or workshop.

? Ability to work independently, take initiative, and deliver results under pressure.

? Strong attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity.

? Willingness to undertake security clearance.

Desirable



? 3D printing or CNC machining experience.

? Basic electrical wiring and harness assembly skills.

? Full UK driving licence (advantageous but not required).

Education



? Relevant technical qualification (e.g., BTEC, HNC) or equivalent hands-on experience in electronics/mechanical engineering.
