Key Responsibilities:
Soil Sample Collection & Preparation:
Receive and prepare soil samples for laboratory testing, ensuring all samples are labelled, logged, and stored properly.
Conduct Soil Tests:
Perform a variety of soil tests (e.g., pH, nutrient content, texture, moisture, organic matter) following established protocols and procedures.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
Analyse test results, interpret findings, and prepare detailed reports for clients, research teams, or environmental agencies.
Maintain Lab Equipment:
Ensure that lab instruments and equipment are calibrated, maintained, and cleaned regularly.
Quality Control:
Adhere to safety standards and quality assurance practices to maintain the integrity of soil samples and test results.
Record Keeping:
Accurately log all test results, observations, and any maintenance of equipment into digital or physical records for future reference.
Collaboration:
Work closely with project managers, agricultural specialists, and environmental scientists to ensure testing is aligned with project goals.
Troubleshoot Issues:
Identify and resolve any problems with the lab equipment or soil testing processes, reporting any issues to management.
Qualifications:
Education:
A degree in Environmental Science, Agronomy, Geology, Chemistry, or a related field. (Relevant certifications or courses in soil science or laboratory technology may be a plus.)
Experience:
Previous laboratory experience, preferably in soil testing or environmental science, is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of soil testing procedures, lab equipment, and safety protocols. Familiarity with laboratory software for data analysis and reporting is an advantage.
Attention to Detail:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to spot discrepancies and ensure accuracy in test results and data.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to work in a lab environment, handle heavy samples, and stand or sit for long periods of time.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and interact with team members or clients.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to identify issues with testing procedures or equipment and find practical solutions.
Working Conditions:
The role may involve working with hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals, heavy metals) and requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Occasional fieldwork may be required to collect soil samples from various locations.
