This post is for a Laboratory Manager who will be responsible for the Sustainable Energy Materials Group (SEMG) laboratories, their equipment, testing activities, safety, staff and student training, and lab discipline. The Laboratory Manager will report to the Department Services and Safety Manager to ensure that that activities in these laboratories are performed safely. The Laboratory Manager will work closely with the researchers within these laboratories who are responsible for integrating materials synthesis, battery assembly and testing, power to X technologies and materials characterisation.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
You will be responsible for the maintenance of the equipment in the SEMG laboratories and will co-ordinate the procurement and installation of new equipment with the senior SEMG members when required. You will also set up and maintain online resources (i.e., booking systems, laboratory protocols, data management, managing and training group members, laboratory access). You will also liaise with the University facilities team and equipment servicing engineers will be required to ensure maintenance activities are performed as required.
You will also ensure that all SEMG laboratory users are trained appropriately before they undertake any activities as well as ensure that the correct safety and standard operating procedures, and risk assessments are in place. You will also be responsible for ensuring that Health and Safety regulations and procedures are followed within all SEMG laboratory spaces.
You will be responsible for a budget to procure consumables and small equipment and would be expected to assist with simple test rig build/procurement/operation activities. You will also support wider safety and equipment maintenance issues across the Department of Chemical Engineering as per your Line Manager's requests. You will keep up-to-date with developments in the area of instrumentation and analytical protocols, as well as safety, and this will include your attendance at appropriate workshops and conferences.
What we are looking for

Master's or PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field, or equivalent
Experience in working with electrochemistry and, in particular, glove boxes and know-how for maintaining and regenerating them.
Experience in working in a chemical research laboratory, operating and maintaining related instruments, and performing chemical synthesis of materials and electrochemistry
Knowledge of chemical laboratory safety and COSHH regulations
Ability to perform experience in a wet chemistry laboratory
Advanced computer skills
