About the Role:

Our laboratories support a wide variety of students with many different areas of interest including A-levels, BTEC\'s and an array of Higher Education degrees, both undergraduate and postgraduate. As the needs of the students evolve so does our team and we rise to each challenge with enthusiasm and positivity. An interest in all aspects of science and animal anatomy is essential, with a willingness to assist as required, including collection and preparation of dissection specimens. Currently our laboratories are situated within two separate buildings, by the end of 2024 they will be in three areas of campus, therefore, a good level of organization and forward planning is essential.

We are a hard-working team with a very important role supporting the students and enabling them to enjoy the fulfilling practical side of science education. As an experienced technician you will be encouraged to take responsibility for specific modules when comfortable and interact with the students and teaching staff as required in a calm and confident manner during induction and practical sessions.

About You:

  • A keen interest in all areas of science.
  • Minimum of 2 years technician experience within a laboratory setting essential.
  • A willingness to learn and use your initiative, as you will be joining us at an exhilarating time of expansion and change.
  • Appropriate training will be given to enable you to feel confident providing guidance during practical sessions, therefore you must be able to communicate effectively with students, colleagues and external clients.
  • An understanding of the role of dissection and being able to facilitate this area confidently.
  • Must be able to recognize and implement Health and Safety protocols within the laboratory.
  • The ability to plan ahead and recognise that all tasks, even the most inconsequential, are necessary for a smooth running department.
