LAND DRAINAGE OPERATIVE - MACHINE EXCAVATOR DRIVER
FULL TIME
The vacancy is for a Machine Excavator Drivers based within the Field Team usually working outside. The Work carried out relates to water level management and flood prevention. This is usually confined to the Boards Drainage District. It is also possible occasionally work will be required in an adjoining Board.
We are seeking an employee to work in any part of the Board's District and any adjoining Board, as required. The Board's District generally extends from York in a north-easterly direction outwards.
The Board requires an employee experienced in driving 180 and 360 degree hydraulic excavators. The Board in addition has a range of equipment it runs, this including agricultural tractors, long-reach flail mowers. The knowledge and experience to drive all machinery would be an advantage.
The duties will include working in the Board maintained watercourses. This can either be lone working or working in a team.
Day to day duties would include:-
All aspects of watercourse maintenance and pumping station attendance duties.
Removing weeds, bushes and blockages in watercourses and culverts.
Conducting river bank stabilisation works.
The usage of hand tools of various types
The usage of chainsaws and strimmer's as required. (Training can be provided if required)
As part of vegetation control the application of herbicides to watercourses. (Training can be provided if required)
The Board also requires applicants to hold a full clean driving licence as the driving of the Boards vehicles is required. The Vehicles can be 4X4 and include the towing of trailers. (Training can be provided if required)
There is a general requirement to maintain a daily record of work.
The ideal candidate will be expected to be work unsupervised and be able to lone work along with working well as part of a small team. A knowledge of health and safety and safe working practice is also required.
REPORTING BASE
The normal base is the Board's Depot at Strensall, York.
Employees will be expected to start and finish the working day at this location unless otherwise directed.
MANAGEMENT REPORTING
The employee will be responsible to the Board's Foreman for day-to-day matters. Employees will be required to update daily time sheets to maintain a daily record of work of and noting its completion.
RATES OF PAY
The commencing wage will be dependent upon experience and qualification.
The basic working week will be 38 hours.
Payment will be on a monthly basis
Overtime is non contractual will be worked as and when required and by agreement with the Board.
HOURS OF WORK
Monday - Thursday 7.30am - 4.00pm
Friday - 7.30am - 2.00pm
TRAINING
The employee will be required to attend courses relevant to the work expected of this position . This will include health and safety training and may include application of herbicide, use of strimmers and chainsaws, manual handling etc.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
The Board will provide all necessary safety equipment including boots and clothing, to be used at all times or otherwise as directed.
The employee will be responsible for ensuring that the equipment and clothing are maintained in good clean condition - subject to normal wear.
HEALTH & SAFETY
The Board has a Health & Safety Policy and all employees must act within that policy and follow all directives relevant to it. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary procedures being taken against that individual.
HOLIDAYS
23 Days annual holiday plus Bank Holidays and 3 additional days to be taken as directed by the Board.
