- Role Objective

The Lead Barista Trainer will be responsible for delivering exceptional coffee quality and outstanding customer service while fostering a positive, supportive environment for individuals facing homelessness as they train to become baristas. This role will manage daily cafe operations, uphold product and service standards, and actively lead in developing and mentoring new baristas. By combining hands-on barista expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to Change Please's mission, the Lead Barista Trainer will ensure operational excellence and contribute to the growth and confidence of trainees, empowering them with skills for future employment.

- Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Customer Service

Lead by example, demonstrating punctuality, professionalism, and teamwork. Serve as an ambassador for Change Please, upholding and modelling company values and standards. Consistently deliver high standards in customer service and coffee quality, representing Change Please with pride.
Training & Mentorship

Mentor trainees by teaching coffee preparation skills and equipment use, with a focus on those who may need extra support. Share industry knowledge, including details about our house coffee blend and products sold online. Create a supportive learning environment, boosting trainees' confidence and work skills.
Customer Engagement & Service

Provide an exceptional customer experience, fostering friendly relationships to build loyalty and positive brand reputation. Offer insights into our mission and coffee products to customers, enhancing their connection to Change Please. Ensure seasonal drink offerings are available and rotated, maintaining variety and appeal.
Operational Excellence

Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked cafe environment, following health, safety, and food hygiene standards. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork, including inventory checks and quality control documentation. Adhere to opening and closing procedures, ensuring smooth operations and security.
Stock & Equipment Management

Collaborate with community teams and office management to manage inventory levels and equipment maintenance. Ensure all labels, displays, and signage (menus, etc.) are accurate and up-to-date.
Impact & Program Support

Work closely with the Impact Team, understanding each trainee's unique needs and supporting their program transition. Regularly review trainee feedback forms, track progress, and report daily absences or lateness. Identify and address challenges with trainees, such as attendance, attitude, or adherence to uniform policies, and communicate issues to the line manager or Impact Team.
Continuous Development

Participate in learning and development programs offered by HR to enhance personal and professional skills. Stay informed about Change Please's mission and advocate its values within the team and to customers.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

Positive 'Can-Do' Attitude: Enthusiastic and proactive in tackling challenges.

SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) Certification.
The SCA sets internationally recognized professional standards for coffee excellence--from plantation to cup, with a focus on the science of specialty coffee. This certification demonstrates your expertise and commitment to quality, and is valued worldwide.

Training Ability: Skilled in providing high-quality coffee training, with a supportive and patient approach to teaching.

Customer Service Excellence: Committed to delivering an outstanding customer experience that fosters a regular customer base.

Multi-Tasking & Problem-Solving: Capable of handling multiple responsibilities and finding solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Teamwork & Initiative: Able to work effectively both within a team and independently, adaptable to various roles and flexible with colleagues.

Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding communication skills, with empathy and understanding for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Leadership Experience: Prior experience in training, mentoring, or leading teams within a cafe or similar environment.

Operational Efficiency: Able to manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure efficient cafe operations.

Organizational Skills: Strong in planning and organizing daily responsibilities with a proactive approach.

Technical Familiarity: Knowledge of cafe management software and inventory systems (preferred).

Certifications: Certification in coffee preparation or barista training is an asset.

Health & Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with food and beverage health and safety regulations.

Weekly hours: 36 hours

Weekly schedule: Monday to Friday, 5 shifts weekly

Salary: 13.10 per hour

Location: our Partner sites in central Manchester
