As a Barclays Lead Data Engineer you will be joining Investment Banking Services team within Investment Banking Technology area. You will be instrumental in implementing the technology platforms that are designed to meet business demand and are scalable so as to accommodate future business growth. The team follows Agile delivery model and has built multiple DevOps tools for consistent and efficient delivery. We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing and supporting scalable, extensible, and highly available data pipelines on heterogeneous datasets that power downstream applications
  • Collaborating with partners across product and design, engineering, and business teams to drive innovations that improve our customers\xe2\x80\x99 experience
  • Following software-development best practices including test-driven development, contributing to documentation, featuring flagging, etc
  • Helping to maintain and improve existing ETL pipelines, by extracting data from one system and transforming and loading it to a target repository
  • Working with your team to troubleshoot and fix issues in ingest and processing, considering dependencies and integration points
  • Collaborating with DevOps to plan resources and continuously optimize the infrastructure
  • Delivering on critical business priorities while evolving platform towards its strategic vision
  • Partnering with technology teams to design and architect solutions that align to Barclays Architecture, Data and Security standards, while utilizing best-of-breed technology
What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a Computer Science, Mathematics or Scientific discipline
  • Solid expertise in advanced data modeling, schema and ETL process design, implementation, and maintenance
  • Experience with numerous data lake / warehouse technologies / (Redshift, Spectrum)
  • Exposure to Cloud experience (AWS / GCP)
Skills that will help you in the role:
  • Financial services knowledge in Investment banking and collateral management
  • Industry best practices in Architectural methodologies and standards
  • Experience with different variety of data types (JSON, Parquet, Excel, Flat files)
  • Experience with databases and data storage frameworks including: Azure SQL, Postgresql
