We\'re looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join us within AA-X to shape and advance our Data Engineering capability by building a state-of-the-art platform for our Data teams to utilise.

You will solve problems, drive forward continuous improvement and line manage a small yet skilled team of Data Engineers to deliver high-quality data outcomes via modern data sourcing, integration and modelling techniques.

What will I be doing?

  • Leadership: Thought Leadership and Capability Building. Conduct regular 121s and team meetings. Coaching Data Engineers to ensure each project is delivered to expected time/quality and each Data Engineer reaches their potential and succeed within their career
  • Artefacts/Deliverables: Assist and create where appropriate the development of the Data Engineering Patterns and Frameworks
  • Compliance, Regulation and Risk: Validate all code delivered meets the requirements of the patterns and frameworks. This also includes Policies external to the Data Team, such as those created for Information Security and Data Privacy such as Secure Coding Standards, Third Party Components and GDPR
  • Automation: Implement appropriate methodologies to ensure all delivery is developed to allow automation of its promotion and testing within continuous development pipelines
  • Collaboration: Working effectively with data architecture team as well as the wider engineering team and other AA business areas
  • Estimation: Support the creation of estimates within an Agile environment
  • Delivery Reliability: Implement continuous improvement processes to maximise delivery to time/quality
  • Engineering: Support to develop specific work packages for project deliverable, within the expected technologies and expected standards
What do I need?

  • Strong Data Engineering experience with key skills utilising Databricks
  • Proven experience and knowledge with MS Azure as well as other Cloud platforms and architecture
  • Experience with people either through direct line management, coaching and/or mentoring team members
  • Good grasp of modern Data technology i.e., distributed systems, data streaming, event-based architectures etc. and how to apply them
  • Project experience within an Agile Environment of developing using Spark, Scala, Python, SQL, DevOps, JIRA, and GIT
