An overview of the role





We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to drive the development and deployment of advanced analytics, AI, statistical models, and machine learning solutions that deliver real business value. You will work closely with data engineers and product teams, and play a central role in embedding intelligent capabilities into our products and services.



This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about solving real-world problems with data and is excited about contributing to a strategic data vision in a complex, high-impact domain.



Please note, this is a hybrid role requiring in-office attendance at our Winchester or Worcester office twice a week, therefore we are looking initally for candidates who live within a 50 mile radius of one of these offices.







Your key responsibilities





Lead the development and deployment of machine learning models and predictive analytics solutions across the business. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify high-value use cases and translate them into data science initiatives. Guide the wider team in exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model selection, evaluation, and production deployment. Work closely with data engineers to build scalable data pipelines and support the productionisation of models. Contribute to the design and delivery of Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) solutions, including model-as-a-service offerings and analytical APIs. Ensure robustness, transparency, and fairness in deployed models, with appropriate monitoring and retraining strategies. Champion best practices in version control, testing, documentation, and reproducibility.

Qualifications





Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

Experience



Strong experience as a Data Scientist, including at least 2 years in a lead or senior role. Experience deploying models to production and working in cross-functional teams with engineers and product managers. Exposure to real-time analytics, MLOps tools (e.g., MLflow, DVC), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus. Insurance, financial services, or other regulated sector experience is advantageous.

Skills



Excellent communicator with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proficient in Python (Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow) and SQL Solid understanding of supervised and unsupervised learning, feature engineering, model evaluation techniques, and statistical analysis. Comfortable working with large datasets and designing experiments for model validation. Strong presentation skills Expert knowledge of Python and/or R, a solid grasp of SQL Experience with API's & FastAPI Experience with analytics tools, such as Tableau, PowerBI, or Dataiku Front-end expertise (Javascript/Typescript) is a strong plus. Experience with visualisation techniques Deep understanding of Git, GNU Tools and Unix Experience with CI/CD pipelines
