WHAT TO EXPECT

The battery engineering department is responsible for the design, development and engineering sign off of all JLR batteries both designed inhouse and bought in. The department comprises a matrix organisation of designers, test and validation engineers and programme leaders.

The Lead Engineer perform a vital role in the battery engineering design maturation process ensuring that the design team are all working in context and are aligned with programme assumptions. The integration team also provide overall technical reporting for design progress toward virtual builds and test progress as stated in the company Requirements Management & Design Verification System.

Key Accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the achievement of 12V battery development from A-D Samples to demonstrating key attributes to target Quality Cost Weight Function and Timing
  • Lead and resolve cross functional issues across departments and CoC functions
  • Ensure DV requirements and reporting status is maintained up to date for each programme
  • Escalate and communicate issues and roadblocks for arbitration and suggest solutions within power and energy management, powertrain and vehicle.
  • Compile and present major gateway status and report to Vehicle and Powertrain Teams.
  • Manage project cadence and ensure transparent communication and escalation.
  • Lead design reviews to establish design compatibility across teams
  • Support Program Engineers in inputting to AIMS and drive closure in line with vehicle gateways.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders
  • Track conformance plan and deviation completion requirements against gateways.

The ideal candidate will have a customer first mindset, an open communicator with the ability to convey and deliver complex operational ideas in a highly demanding environment. You will be able to challenge existing thinking in a positive way whilst building credibility and trust through experience and personal style.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of battery and/ or power management systems
  • Knowledge of battery technology selection and sizing
  • Familiar with battery cell safe operation boundaries
  • Good knowledge of 12V battery system requirements
  • Ability to provide strong and clear direction to suppliers
  • Strong capabilities in problem definition and problem-solving techniques
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
