We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighter at the 423 Royal Air Force (RAF) Alconbury, United Kingdom.

What will be your primary



The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Lead Firefighter, responsible for a major piece of firefighting equipment and a crew of three or more firefighters engaged in structural firefighting and rescue operations, reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards. You will lead a crew assigned to a major piece of motorized firefighting equipment (such as a pumper or aerial ladder truck) in firefighting and rescue operations, directing firefighting crew in the operation of firefighting vehicles and equipment. You will direct crew in their performance of structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes, in addition to their performance of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) technician containment and control and/or Basic Life Support duties. You will also lead the crew in performing emergency rescue and immediate first aid measures to alleviate further injury and preparing the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. You will assign crew members to perform maintenance of firefighting equipment and fire station facilities, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures to enhance the safety of the work environment.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?



1. Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.; and of basic and specialized firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures.

2. Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; safety requirements as outlined in applicable

safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders; and HAZMAT emergency response procedures, equipment, and identification.

3. Knowledge of basic building design, construction, and occupancy.

4. Skill in detecting and recognizing fire hazards (potential and immediate), and in operating communications equipment.

5. Ability to maintain good working relations; communicate orally and in writing; and lift and carry heavy loads.

6. Ability to provide leadership and integrate the actions of a crew under emergency conditions.

What are the conditions of employment for this role?



1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.

2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. t

3. This position may also be coded as mission essential.

4. You will be required to complete a 12-month probationary period.

5. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.

6. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

7. You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

8. You must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program.

9. You are required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

10. This position may be considered operational; when working an operational work schedule, the incumbent is entitled to receive an Operational Firefighter Pay Supplement for working an approved USAFE shift pattern. The shift pattern may total 192 hours over a 4-week period. Work schedules may be subject to change depending onthe operational needs of the organization as dictated by management.

11. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing, however positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.

12 This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

13. The employee is required to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required.

14. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

15. May be required to work the Emergency Communications Center (ECC).

16. Employee is required to be certified by the Department of Defense (DoD) Firefighter Certification System as Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Firefighter II (includes Firefighter I), HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, Apparatus Driver Operator- Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial, Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS).

*NOTE- Required if Aerial and/or MWS is assigned.

17. May be required to maintain current National Registry Emergency Medical Technical-Basic (EMT-B) certification.

18. Special Retirement Provisions Authority: This is a Primary operations position; UK retirement rules apply.
