Job Description

We're Always Aiming High, leading the way and having pride in what we do, we're looking for a Lead Shift Engineer to join our Engineering team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Our Lead Shift Engineers provide Bristol Airport with both a responsive and proactive engineering, maintenance and technical resource. Ensuring our airport systems, services and assets are maintained to the highest standards, assuring a safe, efficient and compliant operation at all times whilst supporting the Engineering Duty Manager in the day to day running of the department.

Interviews will commence the week of the 2nd June 2025.



PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES



Assisting with prioritising and organising planned and reactive workloads for the shift, ensuring workloads and commitments are met to keep the airport operational. Motivating the shift engineering team leading by example, ensuring high standards of work and reporting while delivering on the Bristol Airport Brand. Attending operational meetings & communicating department issues/relevant information directly to the operational teams as required during a shift to achieve a high level of customer service to all stakeholders. Providing holiday/absence cover for the Engineering Duty Manager ensuring all day-to-day duties are met. Communicating to Engineering Department Management around equipment issues & compliance matters that will impact the department/airport. Ensuring team competence process is followed and identify training needs, escalating non competence and training needs for individuals. Following individual training program for personal development towards the Duty Manager competency framework. Undertaking reactive maintenance duties as required, responding to system and equipment failures within agreed SLA's to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the Airport; Undertaking regular engineering and maintenance duties on Electrical and Mechanical systems, including, but not limited to; HV and LV distribution systems, baggage handling systems, emergency lighting, fire alarm, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Developing a comprehensive understanding of the airport layout, functions and assets through a process of familiarization, undertaking a variety of assignments, training and development and assessment. Undertaking planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in accordance with the routine maintenance plan, providing feedback on equipment condition, updating and completing records and making recommendations for improvements and/or cost savings. Planning and completing inspections, fault finding activities and maintenance on the Airfield Ground Lighting and associated systems, and other airfield installations as required to ensure regulatory compliance. Undertaking routine inspections and maintenance tasks on emergency lighting systems. Monitoring, inspecting and reviewing work carried out by subcontractors, reporting any concerns regarding compliance and/or quality issues, and overseeing remedial works as required. Producing and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements for BRS Engineering activities, issuing work permits for Business Partners and service engineers as required. Adhering to BRS purchasing procedures, ensuring value for money when ordering spare parts, and ensuring optimum stock levels to maintain equipment reliability and reduce down time following failures. Maintaining detailed records of maintenance problems and remedial actions, escalating issues to the Engineering Duty Manager which could pose risk to the running of the Airport, and fully briefing colleagues of ongoing issues. Refueling critical generators and carrying out maintenance to critical AGL systems to maximise efficiency and reliability. Co-coordinating, supervising and escorting contractors and service engineers as required in accordance with relevant Bristol Airport H&S policy. Providing guidance and support for Development and Commercial teams on projects as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION



Essential



Motivation to lead a team and desire to achieve high standards. Experience with High Voltage Electrical Installations, having completed a recognised Apprenticeship as a Maintenance Electrician or Mechanical Engineer. Competent as a multi-skilled trades person who can carry out general maintenance duties. Good numeracy and literacy skills. Excellent IT skills, proficient in the MS Office suite of programmes with the ability to understand and utilise Engineering IT systems. HNC, ONC, or other recognised qualifications in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, with extensive post qualification experience. Clear working knowledge of, and commitment to, best practice in relation to Health and Safety. Extensive experience post qualification. Good communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise and unambiguous messages, and accurately receive and respond to information. Good interpersonal skills, equally effective working autonomously or as part of a team. Customer and results focussed, with the ability to build effective working relationships. Ability to plan and organise workload, changing priorities and switching between tasks without losing sight of deadlines, and keeping operational managers apprised of situations. Pragmatic approach to problem solving with the ability to make good decisions under pressure.

Desirable



Experience of leading a team or demonstratable motivational skills. Experience of working within a highly regulated environment. Experience of undertaking a similar role within a 24/7 operation. HNC, ONC, or other recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering. Previous experience of working with automated PLC controlled equipment. Relevant Health and Safety qualification.
