Lead Surveyor PFP and Fire Doors



Overview



We require a Lead Surveyor to provide management and leadership of the Surveying Team by optimising performance, enhancing quality and the customer experience to support the growth of the surveying department and maximise potential sales opportunities for our fire-stopping/fire door project services.

This is a hybrid role reporting into the Technical & Compliance Manager with an expectation that c50% of time would be based in the Harrogate office with the balance spent working from home, on site with surveyors, meeting with clients and suppliers.

Leadership & Team Management



Line manage, mentor, and support a team of up to 8 surveyors. Set performance objectives, carry out appraisals, and ensure continual professional development (CPD) of survey staff. Support the allocation of and monitor workloads to ensure efficient resource planning and utilisation. Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new surveyors.

Technical & Operational Delivery



Ensure surveys (fire stopping, compartmentation, and fire doors) are completed in line with legislation, technical standards, and client requirements. Undertake/support on complex or high-profile surveys, including quality checking outputs from the team. Develop and maintain survey templates, methodologies, and reporting standards to ensure consistency. Act as a technical escalation point for the survey team. Carry out site audits and spot checks to ensure survey accuracy and compliance.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement



Act as lead point of contact for clients upon receipt of enquiry to understand scope and ensure required documentation is available Cross-Sell Fire Engineer services where a fire strategy is not available. Ensure survey outputs are accurate, timely, and professional. Work with project and contracts managers to ensure smooth transition from survey to remedial works. Represent the company at client meetings, presentations, and technical forums.

Compliance & Quality



Ensure survey reports comply with current fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, and relevant standards. Drive continual improvement in survey accuracy, efficiency, and reporting quality. Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are adhered to across all survey activities.

Commercial & Business Support



Support estimating and pricing of survey works where required. Assist in identifying additional opportunities during surveys for remedial works and consultancy services. Provide accurate reporting to the Operations Director on survey progress, resource utilisation, and performance metrics.

Key Skills & Experience



Proven experience in fire stopping, compartmentation, and fire door surveying. Strong knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation, guidance, and standards. Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines. IT proficiency, including use of surveying/reporting software (Bolster & One-Trace), MS Office and CRM solutions. Attention to detail with a methodical approach to surveying and reporting. Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to explain technical findings clearly.

Qualifications (Desirable but not essential)



IFSM / IFE / BRE / BM TRADA or equivalent fire door and fire stopping accreditations. NVQ or equivalent qualification in passive fire protection or construction-related discipline. Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely). Full UK Driving Licence.

Performance Measures (KPIs)



Survey team productivity and utilisation rates. Accuracy and quality of survey reports (minimal rework/queries). Client satisfaction and repeat business. Delivery of surveys to agreed timescales. Staff retention, engagement, and development. Compliance with health and safety standards.

Pay: 40,000.00-50,000.00 per year
