With a thorough knowledge of the present curriculum and a strong track record in achieving excellent exam results, the Lead Teacher of English oversees the provision for English, supporting each teacher to produce the best possible lessons that will inspire and challenge every pupil. The post holder will lead in the design of an engaging and challenging curriculum that inspires children to appreciate the subject and its application.

Responsibilities and duties
Oversees the provision for English, supporting each teacher to produce the best possible lessons that will inspire and challenge every student
Leads colleagues in the subject area in formulating aims, objectives and strategic plans for the team which support and complement those of Abbotsholme
Leads the deployment and development of staff expertise to achieve subject Team Improvement Plan objectives
Leads the development of whole school literacy: training and supporting all staff as teachers of reading and role models in the use of standard English, and supporting all teaching staff in the development of students' extended writing and effective speaking and listening
Must be able to show a strong record of raising student attainment through their teaching of examination groups
Must be dynamic in their ability to teach KS3, KS4 and KS5
Implements strategies that will inspire and further enhance our students' love of English language and literature
Is an individual who shares our common sense of purpose and high expectations of what students can achieve
The post holder must Hold QTS (or equivalent), a relevant undergraduate degree, be fully committed to Abbotsholme's educational philosophy and be ready to make a full contribution to the broader life of the school
The Lead of English is line-managed by a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Pastoral
To be aware of the physical and emotional wellbeing of the pupils.
To promote and safeguard the welfare of pupils, liaising with other staff as necessary, including the School Health Advisor and Safeguarding Team.
To understand and implement all welfare and safeguarding policies, such as health and safety, child protection, safety on educational visits and attendance.
To fulfil the role of a tutor.
General
To attend weekly staff meetings at times organised by the SLT.
To share in the rota of break, lunchtime and evening supervision duties, as applicable.
To share in the covering for colleagues on short-term absence.
To contribute to the provision of extra-curricular activities, including the annual school 'Hikes' and, if needed, participation in a camp, during the summer term.
To contribute to the marketing of the school through attending periodic school open days.
To undertake any other reasonable requests of the Headteacher.
To role model and support the school's Behavioural Charter principles of honesty, integrity, humility, courage and respect.
