About the Role



Location & Contract: This is a full-time, permanent role. The role is hybrid working, with travel required to our Reading hub at least twice per month at your own expense.

The Learning and Development Coordinator plays a vital role in inspiring, equipping, and empowering volunteers and employees at Make-A-Wish UK. With approximately 80% of time dedicated to supporting our growing volunteer community and 20% focused on internal employee learning, this role designs and delivers inclusive, dynamic, and accessible training experiences.

Working in close partnership with the Community & Volunteering, People, and Technology teams, the coordinator ensures our volunteers feel confident and connected throughout their journey--from recruitment and onboarding to active involvement in wish-granting and fundraising. By fostering a culture of lifelong learning and supporting employee development, this role enhances our collective capacity to deliver transformational wishes for critically ill children.

Key Responsibilities



Design, deliver, and continually improve inclusive learning experiences for volunteers, tailored to a wide range of roles including wish granting, community events, and fundraising. Build engaging onboarding, role-specific, and project-based training that empowers volunteers to feel prepared and inspired in their roles. Collaborate with the Technology team to develop training content that supports and upskills volunteers in using Make-A-Wish UK's digital platforms and systems confidently. Recruit, train, and support a network of volunteer trainers, equipping them to deliver high-quality, localised learning sessions across the UK. Support the Community & Volunteering team with all aspects of the volunteer journey, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and stewardship. Ensure all volunteer learning aligns with compliance standards, safeguarding regulations, and best practices in volunteer management. Co-design learning content with input from volunteers and wish families, ensuring authenticity, accessibility, and real-world relevance. Design, Develop, Review and Implement comprehensive and engaging training materials, content and resources as well as being able to use our volunteer and people LMS systems to upload and deliver face to face and e-learning content. Ensure training content aligns with all applicable regulations relating to our charity i.e Fundraising, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Data protection/GDPR and Employee Regulations. Design resources and deliver training sessions that help employees to foster a consistent, volunteer-positive culture effectively

Essential Criteria:



2-3 years' experience of working within an L&D role. Minimum of a L&D level 3 qualification or equivalent experience Proven experience designing and delivering engaging training in both in-person and online formats. Strong understanding of volunteer engagement and the training needs of diverse audiences. Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Confident using e-learning tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and content creation software. Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects. Collaborative and empathetic, with experience working across teams and functions. Capable of training and supporting large volumes of people with training (500+volunteers 90+employees as part of a programme delivery.

Desirable Criteria



L&D level 5 qualification or equivalent experience Experience working in a learning and development, volunteer coordination, or nonprofit setting. Familiarity with safeguarding and compliance considerations, particularly in community or healthcare environments. Experience supporting recruitment or onboarding of volunteers. Knowledge of behavioural science, inclusive training practices, and adult learning theory. 5+ years' experience of working within an L&D role. A demonstrable knowledge of current legislation within a variety of areas such as volunteering, employment legislation, fundraising, Data Protection etc. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks alongside ongoing volunteer programme management, including confident presentation and training skills
