About Harrytown Catholic High School
Harrytown Catholic High School is a co-educational Catholic comprehensive school located in Stockport within the Diocese of Shrewsbury. Our school comprises of approximately 807 children and 85 staff. We are an inclusive school which serves an increasingly diverse community drawn largely from seven associated Catholic primary schools located in Stockport.
At Harrytown Catholic High School, our ethos is grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the values of the Catholic faith. Every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to grow spiritually, academically, and personally.
Our Mission at Harrytown: Strengthened by Jesus Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit, our Catholic school serves to support our young people to grow in faith and knowledge. We develop confident, resilient and aspirational young people who contribute and serve, with love and kindness, in our global community.
This Christ centred Mission guides us in building the Kingdom of God here on earth and is underpinned by our school virtues handed down to us by the Sisters of Charity of our Lady of Evron
Humility
: Recognise our own limitations and value others as God's children
Service
: Live out Christ's teachings in all we do
Unity
: Work together for the Common Good
Simplicity
: This is knowing what is really important in life
Charity
: Give without expecting anything in return
Our Mission is supported by our chosen scripture "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" Philippians 4:13.
We are on a continued journey of improvement and are striving for excellence in all we do. The school has very strong links with Aquinas College which, as our local Catholic sixth form provider is where the vast majority of our pupils go after completing their Key Stage 4 with us. The school enjoys excellent working relationships and partnerships with other local primary and high schools. Extra-curricular opportunities include sports activities, cookery clubs, art clubs, STEM club, musical events, field trips, retreats and visits abroad. We are keen to develop the "whole person" by encouraging a culture of high aspiration, self-confidence and active involvement in charity work.
Our curriculum offer across Years 7-11 is both broad and balanced and we have made recent changes to ensure it is appropriate for all.
The school has invested in an expansion of provision for pupils with additional needs. We have developed both a pastoral hub and nurture provision which operate alongside our wider SEND offer. We have specific provision for pupils with SEND both within and beyond the classroom.
Our strong pastoral system is designed to complement and support the academic work of the school and promote the welfare, wellbeing and safety of all pupils. The Heads of Year are each supported by a Pastoral Manager. In addition, the school has the support of a professional counsellor, learning mentors, school nurse and a Lay Chaplain. All teaching staff are required to contribute to the pastoral care of the pupils.
The school is committed to its responsibility under the 'Safeguarding of Children and safer recruitment in Education' statute and will undertake all necessary checks with all relevant authorities to verify the credentials of each and every candidate and their suitability to work with children. References will always be sought from the candidates' most recent employers. Any offer of employment is made subject to satisfactory references and appropriate clearance from all relevant bodies.
