Job Description

Term time only - a fixed term contract (til July 2026),

Core responsibilities



Do you want to be part of a team dedicated to supporting young people in their vocational education? You could make a difference.

To work closely with students with an EHCP and additional needs to support them with written work, building self-confidence and life skills, supporting with challenging behaviour and helping students to regulate their regulation.

To support in the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning in our City and Guilds Level 1 Multi-Skilled Construction (Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plastering, Tiling, Painting and Decorating, Electrics, Plumbing)

To support students to attend and engage in English and Maths lessons, where required.

To support all students in achieving their potential by taking a pro-active, enthusiastic and flexible approach in accordance with St Ed's ethos and operating procedures, policies and strategy

Responsibilities



To support students during lessons, ensuring they are fully engaged and making progress

To assist the Tutor in the development of resources and teaching materials to support individual learning styles

To support with the planning and preparing of learning activities with guidance from the Tutor

Assist the Tutor with the delivery of teaching and learning, encouraging positive behaviour and engagement

To support the students to find creative ways to achieve learning across the levels for individuals (especially those with additional needs)

To support students in community projects to promote engagement and work experience

Maintaining registers, tracking progress and providing feedback to both students, centre staff and parents/guardians.

Assist in the updating of engagement and behaviour logs, and student records.

To positively engage with all students including those that display challenging behaviours, enabling students to be treated as individuals in a person-centred manner.

Deal, in conjunction with Welfare department, with any student conflict or incidents in line with both the individual's plans and St Ed's policies, ensuring that all incidents are recorded properly.

To work as part of St Ed's team to manage student's behaviour on site, in accordance with St Ed's ethos, code of conduct, and behaviours and rewards policy.

Maintaining tools, equipment and resources for the purposes of teaching and learning

Maintain standards required under the Health & Safety at Work Act and all relevant health and safety regulations

To support other staff where needed across St Ed's core activities

Contribute, where possible, with the development of the vocational curriculum, and subsequent design of delivery areas and methods

Contribute to and participate in the whole organisations performance, leading by example and working as part of a team

To support the management with the registration and of vocational qualifications.

Other responsibilities



To ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of students, staff and visitors to the centre in accordance with St Ed's operating policies

To ensure that all staff and students are aware of and comply with St Ed's safeguarding requirements and comply with St Ed's safeguarding policies and practices laid down

To contribute to and undertake risk assessments of both activities and people (students, staff and visitors)

Assist the Tutor with the delivery of teaching and learning, encouraging positive behaviour and engagement

Support students in community projects to promote engagement and work experience

To provide general advice and guidance, attend multi-agency meetings, providing feedback when needed

To undertake Continual Professional Development (CPD) some of which you may be required to undertake in your own time, ensuring that all vocational and teaching and learning knowledge is current and up to date

Ensure that professional memberships are current and vocational specialist professional body memberships are maintained.

Other duties



The post-holder may, from time to time be required to perform other duties than those outlined in the job description. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to this post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility entailed. The post-holder may, at times, be required to work outside of normal office hours or at weekends. Such variations would not in themselves justify the re-evaluation of the post.

You will need:



Experience of dealing with difficult to reach people

English and Maths Level 2

Ability to plan and prepare work in advance

Understand equality and diversity and safeguarding procedure

Empathetic and with ability to motivate students

IT Skills -adept at Outlook, Microsoft Work and Excel

Reliable, adaptable, resilient and flexible

Willing to take an active role in implementing St Ed's ethos in accordance with the Corporate Strategy

A pro-active approach which demonstrates drive and enthusiasm with enthusiasm for support of St Ed's development

Ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise tasks

Team player

Commitment to own professional development and participation in staff development activities

Empathetic, with the ability to motivate staff and students
