Job Description


The Lecturer in Foundation (0.4 FTE, fixed term) will teach into the Fine Art provision within the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, based in the Department of Art & Performance.

Art & Performance is a long-standing cornerstone of the creative offer at Manchester School of Art and is characterised by interdisciplinarity, collaboration and contextual understanding. The Department played a significant part in the recent REF2021 success in Art & Design, which was ranked second in the UK for research power with 100% of its research environment and impact rated as internationally excellent or world leading. With a commitment to the creative society, it possesses a unique blend of research-led teaching, a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment and extensive professional industry links, all of which encourage our students to cultivate their own unique approach to their own practices. The Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is an important part of our educational offer where Level 3 students learn a range of skills to develop their portfolios to apply to a range of art and design degree courses.

About the role

  • Do you have experience of teaching on a Foundation Course in Art & Design?
  • Do you have an awareness of the Level 3 programme delivery and the specific needs of these students?
  • Do you have a good first degree and a relevant MA in Fine Art or similar specialism (or equivalent practical experience as an artist)?
  • Can you teach fine art, including drawing and painting, bringing knowledge of contemporary arts practice in the wider context of the discipline?
  • Are you able to work flexibly in various teaching environments including workshops, lectures, briefings, one-to-one tutorials and co-teaching?
