About the Department:
The Department of Computing and Mathematics is a large and successful academic unit in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. It is committed to achieving high-quality teaching, research, and enterprise. The Department has over 70 members of academic staff and delivers courses to over 1500 students across Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.

The Department has a significant history of delivering outstanding teaching in game development with an enthusiastic and experienced team committed to providing games programmes which meet the changing needs of the industry. As part of this endeavour, the Department is a partner in SODA (The School of Digital Arts) and works across faculties to deliver games and computer animation programmes that place interdisciplinary work at their core. With innovative assessments, such as tasking students to participate in a simulated game studio environment and \'Game a Week\' challenges, the Department\'s programmes focus on supporting students in developing job-ready portfolios of work.

Our department is innovative in its teaching and is the sector leader in Degree Apprenticeships and delivers the Digital and Technology Solutions programme in collaboration with a wide range of companies, including multinationals and SMEs. The University is a founding member and one of five theme leads of the National Institute of Coding, a consortium of 34 universities, over 100 companies, and outreach organisations that is driving teaching innovation in digital skills education to address the digital skills gap.

The Department is closely aligned with the Centre for Advanced Computational Science (CfACS), which conducts world-leading research in computer science distributed across five main themes:

About the Role:
You will teach on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department and SODA, including the BSc (Hons) Computer Games Development, BSc (Hons) Games Design and MSc Computer Games Development programmes, using pedagogic approaches that deliver a first-class student experience. You will be expected to contribute flexibly to teaching and conduct research or knowledge exchange within the Centre of Advanced Computational Science.

Ideal Candidate:
We seek applications from individuals with:
  • Expertise in Computer Games Development or Design either through academic research or professional or industrial practice.
  • An in-depth knowledge of typical industry-standard game development and design tools, such as Unity, Unreal Engine 4 and/or Unreal Engine 5.
  • Teaching or industry experience in Computer Games Development and/or Games Design.
  • A PhD in Computer Science, Computer Games, or a related discipline, or have the equivalent relevant industrial experience.
You will contribute to Research or Knowledge Exchange via the Centre for Computational Science by making a substantial contribution to one of the Research and KE themes listed above.
