We are now looking for a Legal and Compliance Officer who can support across both legal and data protection work. This is a varied role that would suit someone early in their career who is looking to develop both their legal and data privacy expertise. You will bring up to two years' experience in the relevant areaas and a real appetite to learn, collaborate and make a positive impact.
What you'll be doing
Legal Support:
Providing advice and support to colleagues on legal questions and contract terms, particularly those involving regulatory matters
Preparing first drafts of documents and conducting legal research
Collating and organising contract information in our electronic systems
Analysing legal data and maintaining accurate records in our databases
Preparing clear written updates on legal topics for internal teams
Assisting with legal complaints and filing documents at court where needed
Supporting the planning and delivery of internal training on legal matters
Helping with day to day administrative tasks to keep the legal function running smoothly
Compliance and Data Protection:
Reviewing and managing the data protection inbox
Supporting and logging Data Subject Rights requests
Receiving, collating and responding to Data Subject Access Requests in a timely and accurate way
Identifying and logging potential data protection complaints or breaches
Helping maintain our register of data protection incidents and near misses
Recording complaints and incidents using our service desk system
Assisting with the annual Information Asset and Data Mapping process
Keeping clear statistics on all data protection activity including DSARs, erasure requests and breaches
Preparing documents and information packs ahead of quarterly Data Governance Office Committee meetings
Providing general administrative support for the data protection team
What you'll bring
:
A legal background with up to two years experience as a solicitor, CILEX professional or equivalent, ideally with some exposure to regulatory work
Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, supported by the BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection
Strong organisational and project management skills
Excellent written and verbal English with great attention to detail
Confidence handling confidential information
Strong Microsoft Office skills and confidence working with digital systems
