As an LGV Driver Trainer, you'll deliver outstanding driver training and assessments across a wide range of vehicles including LGVs, specialist fire appliances, and off-road vehicles. You'll prepare NFRS personnel to safely operate vehicles in both standard and emergency response situations, contributing directly to the safety of our communities.
This role also includes delivering instruction on trailer towing and Major Pump operations in compliance with Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and Fire Standards Board (FSB) expectations.
The role is based primarily at our Training and Development Centre in Bowthorpe, with travel required across Norfolk and occasionally beyond. Occasional evening and weekend work will be needed to meet training schedules - authorised overtime is paid where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver DVSA-standard driver training for LGV (Category C, C1) vehicles
Conduct practical driver assessments and maintain accurate training records
Tailor training to individual learning styles and performance levels
Collaborate in planning and scheduling training courses
It is essential you will have:
Full Category C, C1 licence (held for 3+ years)
Experience in the delivery LGV driver training to DVSA standards
Experienced operator of appliance major pumping equipment
Excellent communication, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
It is desirable for you to have:
DVSA-endorsed LGV Instructor Qualification
DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI - Car)
DVSA Fleet Registered Instructor or equivalent
Forklift Operator & Instructor qualifications
Experience with emergency vehicle exemptions and multi-lift/hook lift systems
Familiarity with Roadcraft, the Highway Code, and relevant legislation
Special Requirements:
Must hold and maintain a valid LGV licence (with no more than 7 penalty points)
Continued employment depends on meeting vocational medical and licensing standards
