Introduction:
Founded in 2003, ICON College of Technology and Management is a private higher and further education institution based in the East End of London and has in excess of 2000 students. The College seeks to improve its student offerings year on year and develop a student-centred learning experience based on current teaching and learning pedagogies and systems of assessment. The Librarian post will involve overseeing the library and assisting the students and faculty members with any queries. Duties will include administration, and ensuring library rules are adhered to. This role will suit an individual who has the ability to work independently, utilise their initiative and someone who strives to provide excellent customer service at all times

The person appointed will be/have:
Responsible for the operation of the library, responding to the needs of a diverse range of students.
Knowledge of online library systems and be able to develop them.
Knowledge of different coding systems and the ability to expand and refine them.
Work to improve and transform the teaching, learning and research resources to meet the on-going development of the College's teaching programmes.
The ability to maintain and update records relating to both old and new books in the library.
Able to assist in the work of Academic Services in the planning, standardisation and effective exploitation of library resources, and ensure effective liaison and provision of information skills instruction for the benefit of the whole college community.
Able to develop, curate, exploit and promote the Library's print and electronic collections and services for academic departments and for the benefit of the whole College community.
Person Specification:
Essential requirements
Degree level education or work/professional experience of equal standing.
Previous experience of working in a library.
Ability to work on your own initiative.
Good interpersonal, verbal communication and presentation skills.
Good IT skills with particular expertise using databases, the internet and online searching.
Strong customer service skills.
Experience of assessment of resources and library users' needs.
Subject-specific knowledge or expertise in a particular function, for example ICT resources or resource ordering.
Be experienced and skilled in literature searching and reference management, and in the design and delivery of innovative and exemplary services to support all staff and students effectively in their use..
Have experience of applying emerging technologies, particularly in the areas of eLearning and social media, to effectively support your own professional practice and the experience of library users.
Desirable requirements
Higher education qualification or professional recognition (e.g. Library and Information Science (LIS) or equivalent).
Student academic skills development.

BENEFITS:
The College will offer a competitive salary within the range 28-30K depending on qualifications and experience (pro-rata for a part-time post holder). In addition, there will be 33 days holiday per annum for a full-time candidate, including 8 statutory Bank Holidays. For a full-time member of staff there is a 3-5% pension contribution.
