Lighting Design Engineer (6-Month Fixed-Term, Maternity Cover -- Potential Permanent)

Contract:

Full-time,

6-month fixed-term (maternity cover)

with strong potential to become permanent. We expect to expand and foresee a second permanent role within the next 6 months.

As a

Lighting Design Engineer

, you'll help us deliver on our mission to

reduce waste, improve sustainability, and set new standards in compliance

-- designing products that serve communities and the environment for years to come.

Salary & Development

Candidates with direct experience in

lighting compliance standards

(e.g. BS 60598, BS 8887) or

photometric testing

will be considered at the

higher end

of the range Candidates with

transferable product design or engineering experience

will be considered at the lower to mid-range, with

structured training provided

to build lighting-specific expertise

Key Responsibilities

Design & develop products:

Own luminaire/fixture design (LEDs, drivers, optics, thermal/mechanical choices) using CAD (e.g., Fusion 360).

Prototype & validate:

Build prototypes; plan and execute tests (incl. photometric support) to hit performance, safety, and reliability targets.

Compliance-ready:

Ensure designs meet

CE, UKCA, EESR, RoHS

; contribute to

Technical Construction Files

and related documentation.

For manufacture:

Work with suppliers on parts and processes; define clear assembly/test/QA steps for reliable, repeatable builds.

Document clearly:

Create BOMs, drawings, datasheets, and user documentation that production and customers can trust.

Drive continuous improvement:

Enhance products for

longevity, compliance, and circularity

. Stay ahead of

industry standards and sustainability innovations

, ensuring our designs reflect both client needs and our environmental commitments.

Support cross-functional teams:

Provide technical input to production, sales, and support to unblock issues quickly.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field 2-5 years of experience in product design, development, or engineering Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Fusion 360) Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively Advantageous but not essential: experience with photometric testing and lighting compliance standards

Pay: 29,000.00-39,000.00 per year
