Introduction




DB Cargo UK is currently recruiting for a Locomotive Maintainer to join our Asset Management and Maintenance department based at Crewe.


The Asset Management and Maintenance team at DB Cargo UK ensure that all our wagons and locomotives are maintains and services on a regular basis to ensure smooth and efficient running whilst in service. The team is made up of skilled engineers and maintainers.


You will work a shift pattern which includes nights and weekends.

What will you be doing?




Develop and implement work plans with the Depot Manager and Maintenance Team Coordinator to meet depot output targets, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and quality standards within budget.


Ensure materials requirements are fully met for all work activities.


Monitor progress against plans for budget, materials, vehicle presentation, and work completion.


Create and implement action plans to address any performance shortfalls.


Review and interpret specifications for new work.


Perform higher-level technical fault finding and advanced mechanical diagnostics.


Conduct testing and commissioning of signalling systems.


Carry out technical riding duties and produce associated reports.


Utilize smart technologies such as TOPS, Maximo, and other relevant systems.


Hold higher academic qualifications (as required for the role).


Write and deliver technical training courses.


Act as a trained mentor (if applicable) and contribute to staff training and development.


Produce detailed condition and production reports.


Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives and projects.


Ensure T&RS (Traction & Rolling Stock) delivery requirements are met daily across the area.


Develop and implement training plans for all engineering personnel.


Play a key role in talent development and employee growth.


Uphold general health and safety standards within the depot, conduct safety tours, IPEs, and communicate safety updates.


Maintain compliance with current ISO standards in Quality, Safety, and Environmental areas.

What are we looking for?




Successful candidates will have a NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) as a minimum. The NVQ Level 3 could have been obtained through completing an engineering apprenticeship or through a course at College/ Sixth Form in an engineering discipline.


Experience in operating Auto Ballasts and Side Tippers will be an advantage


Candidates will also have hands on engineering experience which must be displayed in their application.


A mixture of electrical and mechanical engineering experience is advantageous as well as experience within a similar role in the rail sector but this is not essential.

What matters to you?




An annual salary of 36,099 based on a 35 hours per week contract + 4,086 shift allowance.


6,739 per annum additional hours payment (for working a 42 hour week) bring the total to 46,924.
