Machine Shop Assistant

Piper Boats is looking for a dedicated Machine Shop Assistant to join our production team. This role is pivotal in supporting the production area, focusing on the operation and maintenance of CNC machines, edgebanders, and other machinery critical to our manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will be skilled in machine operations, demonstrating a strong commitment to quality and efficiency.

Piper Boats is a small company specialising in the building of a range of steel hulled barges for private individuals to explore the waterways of Europe. We a team of highly skilled steel fabricators and boat fitters that take our boats from raw steel plates through to fully fitted boats. The complete boatbuilding process is completed in house

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Operation:

Assist in the operation of CNC machines and edgebanders, ensuring all products meet our strict quality standards.

Technical Interpretation:

Accurately read and interpret technical drawings and worksheets to ensure that production aligns precisely with specified requirements

Equipment Maintenance:

Conduct regular maintenance checks and perform troubleshooting to keep machinery in optimal condition.

Production Support:

Assist across various aspects of the machine shop production area, including material preparation and quality control.

Quality Assurance:

Monitor outputs and adjust machine settings to ensure the highest quality of finished products.

Safety Compliance:

Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements:

Experience in operating CNC machines or similar equipment in a production environment. Previous experience of Biesse machines would be an advantage A keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to producing high-quality work. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment. Willingness to work extra hours when necessary. FLT license would be an advantage although training could be given A full, clean UK driving license is beneficial. Salary 14 - 15 per hour based upon experience.
