We are a leading UK manufacturer of upholstered bed frames and mattresses, operating from a modern production facility in Leeds. Our factory includes automated and semi-automated sewing, cutting, and packing lines, supported by upholstery and assembly operations. As we continue to expand, we're establishing a dedicated maintenance function and seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to take ownership of the upkeep and reliability of our machinery and plant.

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
Additional:
Some out-of-hours work may be required (after 4pm Monday-Friday, and occasional weekends).
Salary:
35,000-45,000 per year (depending on experience)
Reports to:
Manufacturing Director
The Maintenance Engineer will ensure all production and site equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. This hands-on position covers both electrical and mechanical maintenance across sewing machines, fabric cutting lines, packing systems, and general factory plant. You'll take the lead in developing our preventative maintenance routines, scheduling planned work, and managing critical spare parts.
Key Responsibilities
Planned & Preventative Maintenance
Develop and execute preventative maintenance (PM) schedules for all machinery and supporting equipment.
Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly checks, keeping accurate maintenance records.
Schedule planned maintenance during factory downtime.
Coordinate maintenance shutdowns and larger planned works.
Reactive Maintenance & Fault Finding
Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults.
Work closely with production teams to minimise disruption and communicate progress clearly.
Implement long-term solutions to prevent recurring issues.
Equipment Management & Improvements
Maintain asset registers and detailed service records.
Support installation, relocation, and commissioning of new machinery.
Recommend and implement improvements to increase reliability, safety, and efficiency.
Assist with calibration, adjustments, and fine-tuning of equipment as required.
Stock & Procurement
Manage and maintain stock of critical components and consumables.
Source spare parts and liaise with suppliers to achieve best value and reliability.
Maintain accurate inventory records and forecast future component requirements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out safely and in line with company policies.
Conduct safety checks on machine guards, interlocks, and emergency systems.
Support risk assessments and contribute to continuous improvement of site safety standards.
Continuous Improvement
Support Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
Contribute to OEE (Operational Equipment Efficiency) and continuous improvement projects.
Provide input on energy efficiency and sustainability where applicable.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
Recognised qualification in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering (e.g. NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent apprenticeship).
Proven experience in a maintenance or engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Familiarity with motors, drives, PLCs, sensors, pneumatics, and general automation systems.
Excellent organisation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proactive and self-motivated approach, able to work independently.
Desirable
Experience with sewing, textile, or packaging machinery.
18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations qualification.
Experience using a CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
Basic MIG/TIG welding or light fabrication ability.
Background in Lean maintenance practices.
